I replaced the teams that made the real WC, but aren't in WE with teams that they beat to get there.  Nigeria for Angola, South Africa for Ghana,  Senegal for Togo.  In the case of Trinidad & Tobago, all of the teams that they beat to get there are already in the WC or don't exist in WE.  I went with Chile on whim.

Draft Format

Draft to be held in the chatroom on Thursday March 2, 2006 at 9:30 pm ET.

It is up to the individual participants to do their own research to determine which teams they wish to select in the draft.

Each participant will draft one team from each one of the 8 groupings.

The draft order for the first round (drawn randomly) is:

1.  Slumberland
2.  K_Mosley
3.  Jason
4.  Ted_L

The draft order for each subsequent round follows the pattern of #1 goes to #4 and everyone else moves up one slot.  Repeat for each grouping until finished.  Thus each participant gets two #1 picks, two #2, and so on in the groupings.  Upon completion of draft I will update the groupings with a lower case letter behind the country name to indicate who owns that team for the group matches.

j=Jason
k=K_Mosley
s=Slumberland
t=Ted_L

How the tournament works.

In the grouping stage each team plays each team within their group one time.  The top two finishers in each group advance to the round of sixteen.  From that round it becomes a single elimination tournament until the semi finals where the two winners play each other for first and second and the two losers play each other for third place.

Every time a participant plays a game they will get credit for it in the separate particpant ranking table.  A win is worth three points, a draw is worth one point and zero points for a loss.  Ties in the rankings table point total are broken by goal differential.  The winner of the tournament is the participant with the highest point total in the rankings table regardless if they win the final game of the World Cup.

The only stage where there are draws as final result is the group stage.  From the round of sixteen on we will use extra time and then penalty shoot outs to determine a winner.

Each participant will have eight teams after the initial draft.  After the grouping stage is over the remaining sixteen teams will be pooled for another draft where every participant drafts four teams.  After the round of sixteen comes the quarter finals the remaining eight teams are pooled for a third draft where every participant drafts two teams.  After the quarter finals is the semi finals and the final draft of four teams unless all teams are already protected by their owners.

After each stage of the tournament a participant may protect one team.  That team will not enter the draft and will remain with that owner as long as he either qualifies for the round of sixteen with that team and then wins from the quarter finals on with that team.  A participant may choose to unprotect a team in order to protect a new and more desireable team as long as the team meets the aforementioned criteria.
