I ran my second race and finished 6th of 11 and my start position was 10th. I'm doing well just by keeping clean and being consistent. My best lap is still 17, but my average lap is 17.7 or so so that shows I'm consistent which I would rather have than a great hot lap, but constantly banging. I guess I just need to find that 16.x line. I notice everyone in the race gets into the mid to high 16's.
I don't want you to spend your credits on hosting a session, but I am hoping to meet up with you soon for some legends racing. |

Without seeing you race, I wonder if it's an issue of speed rather than line. That is to say, your line might be spot on but you could perhaps come off the gas too early and get back on it too late or something like that. Terry Crouch, who's forgotten more about oval racing than I've ever known, has a way of getting into the corner that lets him carry speed in while still being able to go full throttle before the apex. The way I drive it at the minute is both safer and slower than Terry's method, but still lets me stay full throttle until after I turn in and then get back on the power well before the mid point of the corner.
A hosting session is only $3, mate, so if it's the easiest way to get us both in the same place that's no issue at all. Failing that, we can meet up one day and pick a practice room to join.

After showing Jake and him watching me compete in a Rookie Legends he's going to iRace now. He want to start off with an inexpensive wheel and will be joining soon.

I'm delighted to see that it's got some staying power, Ted, and equally thrilled to see you've hooked another one into it...
Without knowing exactly what we're calling 'inexpensive' I can't advise too much but as far as budget wheels go, this one is a pretty safe bet:
If not the DFGT, then perhaps its predecessor, the Driving Force Pro:
That one might be harder to find but it should be cheaper, and it'll do what Jake needs without complaint.
I might have a used G25 on the go at some point soon, because I'm considering getting either the G27 or one of the new Fanatec Porsche 911 wheels for no good reason at all. Will let you know if it ends up available.

Ted, is Jake ready to roll yet?
While I'm here, have you seen this?
Knowing the level of detail iRacing puts into car modelling, I believe this will be the closest relationship there's been to date between a development team and a racing team. The results should be something special, and that this is happening at all says an enormous amount for the quality of iRacing's work.

Jake is planning on getting his wheel with his next paycheck. I've been busy with work (again) and some other things. Was just talking to Jake last night about dedicating one night a week to iRacing once he gets rolling.
Interesting about the williams-f1 story. |

I won my first race! Only took me 21 starts and it was actually my first podium as well.
Jake is doing better than I am, but he plays a lot more than I do. We've only ever been able to get in the same room on one night. It seems that once you get in with a group of guys it keeps putting you with those guys all night. I forgot I had an older MS Force Feedback Sidewinder and gave that to Jake. It's working well for him. |

Congrats on the win, mate. Feels good, doesn't it? What did you win in, and where was it at? Edit: duh. Checked my Friends list...Legends at Lanier. Those little bullrings make it tricky to stay out of trouble, so any win in a Legends event is a win well earned. The rooms are set based on iRating, the sim's perception of your ability, that kind of thing. You'll tend to encounter the same people more than once a night as a result - if you all stay on for another race, it's likely that at least some of you will be in the same room once the matchmaking has been completed purely because iRacing's stats lead it to think you'll be competitive with each other. That's one of the reasons that the hosted races are so popular, though at $3 a pop they're not something you'd want to run every night. You can also choose to run in the same practice rooms if you wish, though you're not competing or advancing your safety rating there. |
