http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-11-11/viacom-beats-profit-estimates-with-jersey-shore-plans-to-sell-rock-band.html?cmpid=yhoo

I know Derek and a few other play Rock Band so I figured this was newsworthy.

Profit, excluding the sale of its Harmonix game business and tax benefits, was 75 cents, topping the 70-cent average of 26 analysts’ estimates compiled by Bloomberg. Viacom said today it will sell Harmonix, creator of the Rock Band music video game.

A surging recovery in ratings at MTV, driven by the hit show “Jersey Shore,” as well as Nickelodeon, TV Land and Comedy Central helped Viacom sell more television commercials at higher prices.

So much wrong with that picture.

Yeah, this could be a major bummer.  If the studio folds it'll put a damper on my desire to pick up the expensive real guitar that works on the game come springtime.  I mean, if they stop making songs for it, the potential use I can make out of it diminishes.

I would hope that they would still support the title, unfortunately with GH Warriors of rock doing poorly and now Rock Band 3 following suit.  It makes it real easy for Activision and EA to pull the plug on both.  Might not be anyone left to buy Harmonix.
