Have been used up.  Game Canceled.

http://www.gamepro.com/article/news/217144/ea-earnings-down-renegotiating-licences/

In its quarterly earnings report, Electronic Arts recorded a loss of $134 million due to a slower release schedule over the last quarter. Looking ahead, the company has canceled NBA Elite and will reduce company costs by restructuring licenses.

UPDATE: During the company's earnings call, Electronic Arts Chief Financial Officer Eric Brown confirmed that NBA Elite has been canceled. The franchise will press on, however, with development shifting from EA Canada to EA Tiburon.

ORIGINAL TEXT: EA has revealed its financial report for the quarter running from July 1-September 30, 2010. In the report, the company revealed net revenue of $884 million, down over $250 million from the same time period in 2009, leading to losses of $134 million for the quarter. On the plus side for EA, this quarter should be a profitable one, as the company touted a strong start for Medal of Honor, selling two million copies last month.

Beyond publishing new games, EA is undergoing a few changes to create a brighter bottom line. EA announced plans to "restructure key licensing and developer agreements" in an effort to reduce costs. Fortunately for EA employees and partners, the restructuring will not directly involve layoffs, as EA Vice President of Corporate Communications told GamePro there will be "no impact on EA partners [..] the restructuring announced today is 95% related to license agreements and not headcount. This is not a major restructuring of talent."

In addition to earnings, EA revealed the release slate for this and next quarter. While the schedule was largely unchanged from the previous quarter's report, one development (or lack thereof) to note is that the schedule reveals NBA Elite 11 will not release by March 2011--past the midway point for the NBA season. The prospective lineup is below:

and the heads, they are a rolling.

Following a disaster that left EA's high-profile basketball sim NBA Elite 11 on the cutting room floor, the publisher has completely reorganized the way it develops games in its EA Sports brand, dismissing two executives in the process.

According to our sources, all EA Sports development going forward will be driven by one core team that will oversee asset creation and sharing across multiple studios, much like is being done for Dead Space 2.

As part of this change, the general manager positions at the company's Tiburon and Canada studios have been eliminated. Former Tiburon GM Philip Holt is still with EA and is, according to a representative, "considering other options within the company," while Moira Dang, GM of EA Canada -- the studio behind Elite -- is no longer with the company.

When asked to confirm the change, EA responded with the following statement:

We're making organizational changes to our development team at EA SPORTS that will be better for the franchises and better for our people.

We continue to proactively evolve our team to better position ourselves with improved product quality and growth in revenue for our shareholders, to share technology and lower our development costs, and to pioneer new innovation in digital experiences for our consumers.

As part of this transition, we have eliminated the site-based GM roles at EAC and Tiburon.

Our sources tell us that another effect of this structural change is that each sports franchise, as opposed to studio, will have an assigned GM (described to us as "the Captain of each ship") that will report directly to Andrew Wilson, Senior Vice-President of EA Sports, who handles the development portion of its sports game business. The oft-quoted Peter Moore will remain president of the EA Sports label.

That said, EA is developing a new game, "Where in the world is David Littman."

Did Littman move from NHL to NBA?  If so, where IS he, indeed.

Yes, he was the Creative Director for NBA Elite 11.  He was great for the NHL game but his changes in Elite did not fare well.  The whole Right stick shooting in Elite was really not setup that well and I think the Right trigger to pass did not go over very well.  He tried to replicate what he did with NHL.

The biggest problem is that the players all seemed to play the same.  You had Andrew Bynum dunking from the free throw line for cripes sake.  The lack of signature player moves and actions were lacking, to say the least.  Basketball, especially the NBA, the unique styles of each player creates the immersion and that is something that is not lost on the 2k series. It is like EA forgot it's roots.  Just go back to the original, Lakers versus Celtics.

Tom Chambers

That was what made the game so great.  All the stars had their own moves in the game. It might not look pretty today but back then it was a beautiful sight.
