To be honest, the Circuit City deal for the 360 is very tempting at $349 (Xbox 360 Premium with 2 free games AND an extra wireless controller). High-level discussions. Do they go something like,
Jason: "Please." Wife: (Silence) Jason: "Please, please, please." Wife: (Silence) Jason: "PLEASE, PLEASE, OH PLEASE!" I shouldn't laugh. We're going off-island for my birthday tomorrow and I hinted to my wife that I'd like to get a 360 soon. She asked how much. I said $350 for the one I want because I need the hard drive. She just looked at me. I just found out a week ago that I'll be getting a very modest payout from a class action suit against a previous employer. It really is a joke that I'm even qualified for it, but I'm going to take it. It won't cover the full cost of a 360, but is pretty close. So maybe a 360 is in my near future as well. |

I got the bug bad today. I really want to play NHL on the 360.
Since I would only be getting NHL at first I wonder if I should go with the Core or Arcade version and think about upgrading to a hard drive later. Here is my situation. I don't care about backwards compatibility. I own an xbox headset (will this work with the 360?). I have a spare HDMI cable. I have plenty of ethernet cables. Does the core and arcade versions suffer the same reliability issues? Are they also getting the 65nm chips and better cooling? |

I'm exactly the opposite. NHL 08 is so good on the PS2 that I'm having a hard time convincing myself to buy a 360 right now.
I did head over to the Xbox forums to see if the Falcon chipset is available and it seems that most places have the "new" 360 consoles now but there are no guarantees. ------------- http://profile.mygamercard.net/JasonSGN">

The core system is being discontinued, so it would really be best to compare with the Arcade version. Since you can transfer what is on the memory card to a hard drive (if you go this route) you are not hurting yourself. The original Xbox headset will not work since they do not have a place for it on the 360 controllers. Old controllers do not work with the 360. Arcade 360 versus a standard 360 Arcade 360 $279.99 You have HDMI port but does not include cable (I have an elite and it has the cable, have no clue if you can use your own - if you cant it will be $50 extra) No headset (cost $20) No Component cable - Analog only (Cost to upgrade if you use this instead of HDMI) Includes Memory card - no hard drive (20gb is $60 used or $80 new) 5 arcade game Standard 360 $349.99 + 2 games 20GB Hd 2 free full retail games (Forza 2 Marvel UA) includes component cable and HDMI port - no HDMI cable It looks like the 360 standard is the better buy when you factor in the games and having to buy a hard drive and headset. Plus if you do not like the two games you can take unopened games to Walmart and they will give you store credit to get the games you want. Walmart sells Forza 2 for $54.82 online (probably higher in store $59.82) Marvel UA $29.82 So you have a $70 difference between the two systems. Hard drive and headset will cost you at minimum $80 + going with the standard 360 you get around $90 in credit for the two games to get whatever you want. * Not to mention the free wireless controller that is available with the standard 360 if you purchase from CC. -------------

Thanks for the comparison, Brent. I'll go with the Premium when I do finally go. There's not a chance in hell I'm leaving the island on Black Friday though. I wonder if the deal would be available online. It's probably all moot right now. As tempted as I am right now I'm sure I'll have to wait until after the new year. I wouldn't sell or trade my PS2 because I still like Gallop Racer 2004 on it and would keep it for that. I called Gamestop today and they said the trade in value for xbox and ps2 is $20. |

Ted convinced me to get a 360 during our hockey games last night. I'm going to try to grab one at Circuit City on Black Friday. My wife wants to hold it until Christmas, but I'll have to "test" it out before then and setup my Xbox Live Gamertag.

Jason, I guarantee you won't be disappointed. I just signed up for gamefly so maybe that might be an option for you too. Your wife might even be interested in all the arcade content available too. I'm really looking forward to your purchase. I have more stuff to trade in tomorrow so I might expand my "owned holdings" to 2 or three games. I was going to trade in Forza2/Marvel UA, but if you are getting the bundle then I'll hold on to it so we have a racer to play if we don't feel like watching you lose at hockey. -------------

Well I thought I would show that the lighter side of BD actually exists. You bring the smack talk my way and I will knock it right out of each of your players heads, all the while screaming, "Bleed little Devil bleed" as if Swingers II The XBL Smackaroo was being filmed. Oh and this is next gen hockey with tons of new animations. So expect to see red and white unis flying all over the pace. I might even start pulling some of Ted's tricks and elbow you in the back so hard that Jerry Lewis shows up and donates money to you. -------------

I've been trying to figure that out for years.
Here's how it's done:
iWinnerPoints = (Loser's ranking * WinPercent) * ((Point Ceiling - Source Rank)/ Point Ceiling) iLoserPoints = (-30 * (Winner's rank / Loser's rank)) * ((Point ceiling -Winner rank )/ Point ceiling) So what does this mean? The winner gets a percentage of the other person's rank, and it is scaled asymptopically towards the ceiling score. So if you beat a 1000 point person at 5% -- at a score of zero points, you will get the full five percent. At a score of 9000 (with a ceiling of 10,000), you'll only get 1/10th of 5%, and at 9999 points, you will get maybe at best, one point to take you to the ceiling of 10000 A loser loses a _maximum_ of thirty points, but you lose more points if you lose to a lower ranked person (again the ceiling coming into play) That and all match points are "aged", so a match that gave you 50 points today, will only give you 30 points after 30 days, 15 points after 90 days, and so on (something along those lines), so a person who doesn't play for an extended time will see their ranking dwindle, and eventually revert to 1000, the starting rank. ------------- http://profile.mygamercard.net/JasonSGN">

When I was in Costco the day I got my 360 they had pallets of them. I bought at Gamestop because of the huge credit I had to use up. Now I'm not sure if it is the same bundle, but in a hard plastic wrap they had a 360 box and some other hardware. I'm going to be across the street from a costco today. I'll see if I can run inside and look at the package and post late tonight with what I found. For some reason my mind is telling me that it was $399. I seem to remember thinking, "Why is it more at Costco?" So let me confirm. -------------
