Career boxer?

Did you get this?

Were you asking me? Kevin set me a copy for Christmas.

Career boxer or one of the included fighters. It doesn't matter to me.

I completely forgot about that.  Have you played it much?  I don't remember seeing you talk about it.

I haven't played it much because NCAA and PGR 4 take up most of my time, but that could change with some good online matches. I didn't realize that Derek had it too. We also need to get Kevin online with this one.

I have it, but didn't get far.  Remind me, is Marvin Hagler in this one?  I have seen two championship fights live in my life, and old Marvelous Marvin was my hero.  The other fighter I saw live was Sugar Ray Leonard, but it was comback #73.

Yup, Hagler is in there and I like to use him.

Watching Leonard in the 1976 Olympics is what got me into boxing. I live about an hour away from Atlantic City and have never seen a professional championship fight.

Yep - I've got it!  My career guy is 8-1 (plus 5-0 as an amateur).  We should set up a tournament, or something.  Could be fun!  I've never played it online...

Hey Kev,

What Jason and I started in the past on PS2 was a career "league."  Each of us creates a boxer and customizes him maxxing out all the attributes.  Then you have to fight your way up the ladder against every other fighters (i.e. Ali, Frazier, Toney, et al.) in that division.  When you have beaten all of those fighters and if you are the first to do so you are the champion.  Then any other created fighter that beats them all earns the right to contend for the title and you have to fight a title bout.  The idea of maxxed out fighters is so that you are expected to go undefeated to the title bout, but once there it would be an even matchup and a player's skill and technique would determine the outcome.

I think at the time we started this I got sidetracked with flying and then my granddaughter's arrival, but I remember this being loads of fun.

I was Ervin "The Beast" Halasz and Jason was Jason "TKO" Sundberg.

If we did this again I might like to try maxxing everything except lowering cuts and chin to minimal levels.  This would force a more defensive boxing match instead of the 100+ punch rounds we usually see.

Can you max out all of the attributes from the start?  I'd be okay with just creating a "generic" fighter with basic stats and just fighting amongst ourselves.  I think that would keep folks from being too strong, yet allow for some variety among the fighters (e.g. you might choose to have more power, while I choose to have more speed, or something).

Granted, I'm not sure how it all works, since I've never played it online.  And, I'm happy to play it however you guys want to.

I think I'll call myself "Glass Joe."  Smile

Yes you can create a max fighter and take him online from the start.

I like Kevin's idea. Let's limit the attributes on our fighters so we can configure them differently. This should create more interesting matchups.

Any suggestion on limitations?

1.  A total points limitation?
2.  A limitation on the number of max categories?
3.  Any restrictions on height and weight?

What weight class are we going to fight in.  I like Middles and Heavies.  What do other people prefer?

I'll tinker with the create a fighter in the next few nights to see how many points are in each category.

I vote for Middleweight or Super Middleweight.  I like the Heavies too, but they're not fast enough for my taste.  I want fights like Hearns vs. Hagler from years gone by!

How about coming up with "X" amount of points to distribute, with a max of 50 for any category?

50?  out of 100?

Yep, 50 out of 100!

In the career mode, most of your numbers are well below 50 to start out...  That's the basis for my suggestion.  Smile
