I’ve just received word that the demo for NCAA Football 09 is expected to be out on Thursday June 19th for both the PS3 and 360.

The demo will feature a rematch of the National Championship with Ohio State vs LSU. Also included will be a mascot game featuring the Gators vs Longhorns. Both will be on varsity difficulty with two minute quarters.

Damn you EA.

http://www.pastapadre.com/2661/ea-sports-world-wont-have-online-dynasty-component - EA Sports World won’t have online dynasty component

June 10, 2008 by pastapadre No Comments »

Only a day after the launch of the upgraded EA Sports World comes disappointing news. In late April NCAA Football 09 producer Ben Haumiller had an interview with Gametap where he talked about the game and added the following information about online dynasty.

“Our full stat tracking that goes in for dynasty will be in the online version,” Haumiller explains, “and we’re also working with EA Sports World to get our stats displayed on the Web as well. You’re going to be able to see your Top 25 lists, your Heisman results and so forth up on EA Sports World.

Unfortunately confirmation has come today that nothing to do with your online dynasty will be hosted on EA Sports World. This also carries over to Madden 09’s online leagues, where there very well may be no web component, essentially rendering them worthless to a large group of people.

This was one of the things I was really looking forward to. Being able to browse all that information on the web at any time is much more appealing than doing it on the console. I would’ve spent much more time doing so on the computer, and this will likely lead to somewhat of a drop in online dynasty related activity and interest, and would severely hurt the appeal of the Madden leagues. So it appears that NCAA will only get the video and screenshot uploading out of EASW, which feels like a letdown after having a full year to prepare something new.

I played a few minutes before I left for work and the player control is much more responsive than 08. I'm anxious to play some more tonight.

Once we get the Nascar stuff settled and running we should start talking about what kind of season we want to have with NCAA.

1.  Continue with the MAC style season like last year.

2.  Go back to the original like 06 (teams from different divisions).

3.  Come up with something new.

Good to know Jason, I skipped out on last year's NCAA game so I'm intrigued by NCAA 09, I'll be eager to try the demo out when I can.

Played around with the demo for awhile today.  The last version I bought was 07 and my first thought was, is this the best they could do after 2 years off?  But after playing it, I have to admit it felt better and definitely looked better.  Plus, I am in the minority but I love the mascot play - I loved it NCAA 0? (can't remember, but it was a regular xbox title).  Something about seeing a gator doing a fist pump that was exciting!

I got a chance to play a full demo game and came away very impressed with the player control and ball physics. EA wanted to bring the last-gen (PS2) gameplay to this version and it really shows. The player control is very responsive, as is switching players. It almost reminds me of the player control in the 2K series. It also feels faster (in a good way) than 08 and the new right-stick movements are as good as advertised.

The passing game feels much improved too. The ball had a "heavy" feel to it in 08 and it's much easier to control the touch on the ball this year.

The graphics are slightly improved, but the lighting is much better this year. The grass textures look much better too and they added some new animations.

Only 3.5 more weeks until this is released Thumbs%20Up.

I just wish they would include 1-AA teams.  I follow Holy Cross and there was once a day when they were considered a legitimate team (I saw Doug Flutie play at HC, my father saw Jimmy Brown play with Syracuse way back when at HC...

I wished they had I-AA teams too Bastille, I know they a few years back, leave it to EA to actually take out features in a game.

Night games in the NCAA Football 09 demo? Apparently there are if you set your console’s date to November or December. Both the standard play now game and the mascot game will take place at night if you do so. Thanks to http://www.ncaastrategies.com/utopia/showthread.php?t=58403 - NCAA Strategies for this info.

Cool, thanks for the info.

After trying the demo the other day I'm almost certain I'll be getting NCAA this year.

Honestly, the demo didn't do much for me.  The lighting and player models were much improved, but I didn't see a lot of change in the game play.  Of course, I know it's restricted a bit (veteran skill level, no sliders, etc.).  I'll be buying it anyway, because it's my all-time favorite video game series.  I guess I'm just saying the demo wasn't very convincing to me.

To be honest, the gameplay didn't need to be changed that much. The improved player control/responsiveness and ball physics alone make the game much better for me. I'm also thrilled that they updated the playcalling screen and included offensive line blocking schemes this year.

I was worried about EA going overboard with unnecessary changes this year and am glad that to see that they didn't.

Good points, and I did notice some new animations.  I'm always exctied for this release - I can only think of one or two in its lifetime that weren't playable.

The turnovers worry me, though, although I was able to fix them for the most part with sliders last year.

Exclusive: NCAA Football 09 Rosters

July 6, 2008 by pastapadre No Comments »

The controversy surrounding the “business” of rosters has been in the public eye more so this year than any before. That in itself threatens the future of having an editing option in games such as NCAA Football and NCAA Basketball. This year with the addition of the EA Locker feature and the following announcement hopefully that is about to change.

I can now state that the first and only fully named roster file for NCAA Football 09 on the Xbox 360 currently resides in my EA Locker.

I am choosing not to release the file for download at this time as it would just offer the opportunity for certain people to nab it in advance and use it for their own profit. However it is publicly available via the Locker to those who have the game and will remain that way.

I apologize to PS3 gamers as I do not have that roster available. Keep an eye on NCAA Strategies and freencaa09rosters for updates on that. The same circumstances will apply with a fully named roster available for free through the EA Locker, though the timing of when it will be available can not be determined at this time.

So now for 360 gamers there is no waiting around after release for rosters to be completed and no wondering where to get them from. The first time you fire up the game you’ll be able to grab the complete named roster from my locker. Even if you’re one of the lucky ones who manage to find the game early!

Spread the word that rosters are free and easier to obtain this year than ever before. Just head into the EA Locker section of NCAA Football 09 and search the gamertag pastapadre to get them instantly!

What do you think of the demo?

Demo was fine to me.  Did not spend a lot of time with it since the game is so near and I know that it was a guaranteed purchase.

Do people actually sell rosters?  And people actually buy them?  I had no idea.

http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37&satitle=ncaa+09+rosters&category0= - It can be big business

Just imagine how many auctions were done in previous years when you did not have easy access to them.

Even worse are the things people will do to try and get the game early.

I had the demo freeze up last night and I had to manually power down my 360 to reboot. I hope it was a rare occurrence, but I'm hearing about issues with the retail game too. I just hope EA has a patvh ready soon if there is a problem.

Are you keeping up with the news about editing rosters on both PS3 and 360?
The game freezes when editing and corrupts roster files and teams are disappearing from the edit screen:http://www.operationsports.com/mm/showthread.php?t=186018
I wonder how fast these issues can be patched. It seems just making small edits to a roster file can mess things up.

Yeah, I've heard about that and have been following the drama over at PastaPadre too. I don't mind as long as the game doesn't freeze without editing the rosters - I have no problem playing the game with player numbers or auto-named/fake rosters. My freeze happened right after I scored a touchdown and the camera moved to the the mascot celebrating. Since it was the demo, I obviously didn't do any roster editing.

Since rosters are such a large part of the game, I am sure EA is doing everything they can to have a patch ready.

Looks like editing the roster files offline resolves the "freezing" issue.

It also appears to not be an issue if you do not edit the file yourself, once you dl it.

It would be real tough to go all season without making a single edit to my NCAA roster file.
I literally make over a thousand changes including hundreds of CAPs every year.
Depth charts, injuries, etc. EA has the rosters set right after spring ball, and major changes are needed by fall.
So far,it seems as if you use 11 characters or less and don't use certain punctuation, and keep your system offline, and don't make further edits to your file your are set :)

Currently vacillating between the two. Price cut is enticing, but so is Blu-Ray(and the Show).
I've actually been waiting for football to get straightened out,so these NCAA issues are kinda discouraging. Here's another pack of concerns:http://www.operationsports.com/forums/ncaa-football/255678-ncaa-09-gameplay-issues-response-ea.html

I need to stop visiting OS before game releases because it sucks the excitement right out of me.

EA did state that the following issues were very important to them and will hopefully be patched soon:

- DL pass rush
- CPU QB percentages
- DB "stand straight up" issue
- Kick / Punt Returns are too easy
- Players in pursuit often turn the wrong way (see LB's on swing passes?)

Agreed.

I just hope the game doesn't have a "freezing" issue during gameplay.
