Lets see if we can get 4-5!

I had a good time again when we played this on Wed.  I tried a bump of an old thread over on DSP to get some more people possibly interested, as I really would like to see this continue for a while.  With only three people we managed to have a really tight tourney, and some really close events!

I downloaded the demo again and really enjoyed it this time. I'm not sure why I didn't like it the last time I tried it. Amazon has a 2-4 week delivery estimate for Flatout, so I really hope I can find it locally.

My wife is heading to Walmart and I'm hoping they have a copy of Flatout. I've been playing the demo all day and fell in love with this game. How's the online play? Is it smooth like PGR4?

Jason, have you ever tried the in-store availability features for some stores?  I know Gamestop has it (for both new and used games) as well as Best Buy and Target.  Wal-Mart is just starting to incorporate it for some of their locations.  Circuit City had a great system as well, but I guess that is moot now.

One of the Walmarts about 1/2 hour away from me shows it as available and Target doesn't have it at all. Best Buy is out of stock at all it's locations and I refuse to shop at Gamestop. I may make the trip down to Walmart though. I may try my local Target and Toys R Us first though. I really want this game now.

Smooth as silk.  I have yet to see a stutter or lag and you know how I hate my connection and whine about it.

Man, I think I am the one that brought this game up as a possible fun one to play, and I have missed both nights so far!  I so want to play this game online.  Hopefully this can become an "SGN Classic" and have some legs for awhile.

Where did you see that. Target's flier had MLB 2K9 as being available on 3/3 at 8am. Kmart and Best Buy had it listed as available on 3/3 too.

As long as it's a new, sealed copy. My biggest problem with Gamestop is playing full price for opened games.

The Walmart that supposedly had it didn't have any. I may try TRU and Target today.

Here in the UK, the only way to avoid that is to buy online.  All of the specialist stores, supermarkets (from your post, it looks as though Walmart do new sealed copies?  The supermarket they own here, Asda, does not) and general entertainment stores have display cases out and insert the disc and instruction manual at the till, and I suppose it's because this is the only way I've ever known it that I have never once considered this an issue.

Web, I'm currently unable to commit to a particular night.  If I see people will be playing one night I'll try to be involved and may well be wide awake to join in, but there's no need to wait for any further input from me because I really can't provide any.

Wednesday is good for me.

I have a question about the game. In the manual, it says you can turn nitro and damage on/off, but in the game the options are 0% - 2%. I understand how those options effect the nitro, but I see no difference in damage. Even if I set it at 0%, there's still damage.

Well hell, there's a decent chance I may not make it on tonight.  My kids have been sick with chest colds, and have been up coughing/crying the past couple of nights, leaving my wife and I with little sleep.  Assuming the trend continues this evening, I'll need to be up and down to help with the kids.

I will still try to be there, but if I'm not on by like 10:35 or so someone else should host and run the games.  I don't want to lose the enthusiasm for this!

We were all on at 10:30.  I had some problems connecting to Jason's room, but things were fine once we scrambled that and I hosted.  I guess we got actually racing around 10:40.

Hey, since most of who I hope will be the 'regulars' have tried this online at least once, now, I'd like feedback on how I'm setting up the nights.  Each week so far I've run 8 events:  3 Races, 3 Derbies, and 2 Stunts.  Of the Races, 2 are regular and one is head-on.  I'll rotate through the various stunts as we play.

How does that seem to everyone?  Do we want more events or less?  More or less of any specific type?  Right now I'm limiting cars to be the same as host to prevent guys from getting advantages in car type, but after we've played longer we can disable that.

Also, lets try to suck a couple of more folks into this! Big smile Jake or Fazeo, maybe?

Last night was a lot of fun. You guys were right, this game plays great online.

Derek, I had no problem with the events you choose last night and enjoyed them all, especially since I had never tried the derbies or stunts. I like the idea of locking everyone into the same car for now.

I kinda like ending with a Derby, too.  Because you can somewhat target who you go after, it gives the leaders going into the last round something to worry about!

Derek mentioned this game to me the other day since he knew I was a fan of Test Drive: Eve of Destruction on the Xbox. I looked for it at Gamestop today while I was picking up RE5 but they didn't have it at that one. I'll hopefully be able to track it down soon and join you guys. It sounds like a hoot.

Scoop, I just purchased Flatout to race online with these guys and it was great decision. Besides being a lot of fun, the game plays great online too. If you have any trouble finding it locally, Walmart and Amazon both have it in stock online. This game is well worth the $20 even if it didn't have online play.

Scoop!!! Big smile

I think it plays great on line, and we'd love to see you!  Hopefully you can find it!  If not, there are plenty in stores by me and I wouldn't mind grabbing one and sending it to you, if you don't mind used copies.

Flatout doesn't have all of the EOD events, obviously, but it is great smash-em-up fun.  The cars' handling demands more patience and commitment that say, Burnout, but it's not unwieldy and there is a great reward when you learn to powerslide these beasts nimbly around a corner.

Doesn't take as much skill, but it's also fun to ram a T-Bone a pickup truck into a gas pump to win a demolition derby, either. ;)

Then, of course, you have all the Stunt mini-games...

You can't suck at this game.  You're supposed to run into other people/things Tongue.

That's the best part about it.  No worries about clean racing and you can make up for poor finishes in the stunt and derby events.

Despite being Web's second-in-command when we first tried to get this going way back when, I've still not ran Flatout online.  Currently I'm really struggling to get any sleep at all, so if I'm still up in an hour (Web, you're ET, aren't you?  Clocks already gone forward an hour, is that right?) shoot me an invite and I'll be my usual mic-less and on this occasion probably clueless self for the duration.

I ended up with a kid in the ER. :(

That's BOTH of my kids with pneumonia now.  Unbelievably bad stuff going around at my kid's school.  :( :(

Thanks, guys.  I guess pediatric pneumonia is not as rare as I thought, and usually not as dangerous in kids as it is in adults, but it's still nothing to mess around with.

Thankfully, the IV antibiotics they gave him seemed to do the trick, as he was already much more with it when he got home at 3:30 AM than he was when we brought him in around 10:15 or so.

My older boy (who was diagnosed with it last week) is already doing better, so it looks like they'll both be okay soon.  I guess once you get this, though, you are more prone to getting it again.  Since your son has had it twice, I guess you have kinda found that to be the case too, Jason? That stinks.  Do you take any special precautions now or anything?

The school nurse had seen a few cases of this already this year, easily the worst she had ever seen.

Crazy.

D, I had pneumonia when I was 11 and subsequently have had twice as an adult (1992 and 2002) so maybe it is true that you are more susceptible to it once you have had.

Nether my wife nor I have had it, but her brother did twice when he was younger.

Were you hospitalized with it at all, Ted?

No, but I was real close the second time.  Coughing blood and really had a hard time breathing.  Might have been kept in a hospital if I had gone to an ER, but I went to a clinic in a "poor" part of town and they kind of scolded me and sent me home with antibiotics.  I just remember being barely able to walk I was so short of breath.

My sister also had pneumonia when she was 8 and was hospitalized, but she hasn't gotten it since.

We took my son to a pulmonary specialist last year and everything seemed to be okay. We do make him use a nebulizer whenever he's congested now.
