Well looks like more unfunny commercials for 360 owners to suffer through as they wait for some actual information.

Video at the link

In addition to cover athlete Evan Longoria, third baseman for the Tampa Bay Rays, 2K Sports announced today that they have partnered with seven additional elite baseball superstars to help promote Major League Baseball® 2K10. The players will form an impressive council, who will serve as active spokesmen and invaluable gameplay advisors for the title this season. These seven players were selected not only for their excellence on the baseball diamond, but also for their commitment and desire to help create the most authentic MLB video game to date.

The council of players for Major League Baseball 2K10 include:

Andrew Bailey, relief pitcher of the Oakland Athletics
Felix Hernandez, starting pitcher of the Seattle Mariners
Jose Reyes, shortstop of the New York Mets
Justin Morneau, first baseman of the Minnesota Twins
Justin Verlander, starting pitcher of the Detroit Tigers
Kendry Morales, first baseman of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
Nelson Cruz, outfielder of the Texas Rangers

As part of their partnership with 2K Sports, the athletes will consult with the development team at 2K Sports’ Visual Concepts studio to provide their expertise and recommendations for how to maximize the realism of Major League Baseball 2K10 and create the most authentic pitcher–batter battle experiences. These players will also appear in an upcoming “Pitchers vs. Hitters” video series that will highlight the intense battle from the mound to the batter’s box in Major League Baseball 2K10.

Major League Baseball 2K10 will be available on March 2, 2010 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PSP, Wii, Nintendo DS and Windows PC.

Way to go 2K Sports - while Sony releases real info about The Show, you release useless bullsh*t about your game Ouch. March may sound far away, but the game comes out in less than 2 months, so it would be nice if 2K release some real info.

They are being pretty cagey with info on their roster update titled MLB2K10.

The only reason they even bother putting this game out is they are stuck with the license for another couple of years. They have admitted the game is a serious drag on their earnings because of this.

It's really a shame because I'm one of the few people who actually liked MLB 2K9 and is looking forward to MLB 2K10. If they can fix some of the well-know issues (outfield play being my biggest gripe) and clean up the bugs and graphics, 2K will have a "decent" game of their hands. Maybe part of my enjoyment is due to NOT playing The Show on this generation of consoles, but I also know that if I did jumped ship to the PS3/Show, I'd miss the analog fielding in the 2K series.

That is the one thing I do miss from the 2k series. Not as much the analog aspect, but the metered throwing in the field. I preferred using the buttons myself.

Yes,there is a glowing icon under you fielder that gets larger the longer you hold down the button.
It's not a meter per se,but functions as one.

Yea but I prefer the actual meter where you have the ability to go past a line for an errant throw. With MLB 09 if I even go past just touching the button my throws will end up in the crowd (using the Pirates and Rangers probably does not help).

Hmmm...I'm a little disappointed in what I read:

"Yes, the framerate has been largely smoothed out (thank heavens). There were still moments when performance would drop, but these instances were few in number and nowhere near as jarring as they were in the past."

Last year's framerate was only bad on plays along the lines. I'm disappointed that there's any framerate issues in 2K10.

"Another change is that throwing to a base can be done with either the face buttons or the analog stick."

This was in last year's game too. I'd actually prefer that the face buttons be disabled for base throws while using analog fielding.

"This year you select your pitch with a face button and then complete a two-part gesture (the first of which is simple while the second can get a little tricky depending on pitch type) to launch your pitch."

Why mess with things that are fine. I don't see the need to select the pitch type first - it's just another step to take.

"Batter's Eye works in conjunction with inside edge – which has been beefed up to show stats like batting average during day and night games and pre- and post-all-star break – to give proficient hitters a bit of an advantage at the plate. Just as in real life, standout hitters in MLB2K10 can see certain pitches coming as the ball is released from the pitcher's hand. You'll get a quick text pop-up that says "fastball," "breaking ball" or "changeup" depending on the pitch and the hitter."

Bad, bad idea. I hope you can disable the "pop-ups". Nothing like a text pop-up on the screen to ruin the illusion of actually playing a real game.

"There were still moments of graphical slowdown – mainly when the swing analyzer popped up to show me my poor timing – but there's little doubt that it was running smoother than it was last year. The visuals have taken a bit of a hit because of the goal of delivering a more fluid framerate, but I'd much rather have a baseball experience that moved like the genuine article than one that looked like the real thing but moved like rusty robots."

Last year's players did NOT move like robots. So let me get this straight, they toned down the visuals and STILL have graphical slowdown? Unhappy

I might have to spend another year with 2K9.

I might rent it just for kicks. This is like the third year in a row that they have cut back on graphics in an effort to get a descent framerate. I loved the graphics in 2K7 but it has gone downhill since.

"When you're at the plate, you can make contact with the ball in different ways--push down and then up on the right analog stick for a power swing, push up for a contact swing, or press left or right for the new defensive swing."

I don't like that the contact/normal swing is done just by pushing up on the right analog stick. The whole point of analog controls is to create gestures based on realistic movements. They should've kept the right analog motion the same for power swings and contact swings and just added a shoulder button press to make it a power swing.

"In fact, the pitching analyzer goes so far as to show you the gesture you made and how it differs from the gesture you need to make for the perfect pitch. Additionally, you get an instant idea of just how good your pitch is based on a percentage that appears onscreen that reveals the overall strength."

They're advertising something that was in 2K8 and removed from 2K9 Unhappy.

"On the baserunning side of things, you can also cue up how you run by pressing either of the triggers on the controller, so if you want to automatically run to second, you simply click the trigger twice. Conversely, if you want to run back a base, you simply press the trigger once. There are also options to give commands to all baserunners at once or to give them to individual runners."

I hope they didn't change/remove the analog baserunning controls.

There's also the three-man commentary team of John Kruk, Steve Phillips, and Gary Thorne, as well as a new hurry-up baseball option that cuts down on the amount of time to complete a game by removing some of its superfluous elements (like cutscenes).

I would have bet my britches that Steve Phillips would not be in the game this year.  LOL

My favorite part

Robinson: Has the frame rate been addressed at all?

Bishop: That's another area that's key for us. It's already at a pretty solid state and we're not quite done yet. We still have some more time for polishing and tuning, but getting the frame rate to 60 frames per second is key. We don't want you running into all of these bugs. For us, this game is all about making the experience more fluid and polished so that you feel like this game is actually a finished experience.

--------------------

Smart answer, take notes Ben Brinkman.  From saying the typical "will be 60 FPS" to "getting the frame rate to 60 frames per second is key."  At least someone at VC has learned something over the past few years.

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--2K Sports announced today that they will give away an unprecedented cash prize in the amount of $1,000,000 to the first person who throws a verified perfect game in Major League Baseball® 2K10, the next iteration of the popular Major League Baseball® 2K series, prior to May 2, 2010. The special contest, available for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft through the Xbox LIVE® online entertainment network and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system through the PlayStation®Network*, illustrates 2K Sports’ dedication to delivering vastly improved gameplay and pitching mechanics this season in Major League Baseball 2K10.

“You don’t see too many perfect games thrown in MLB 2K, but we’ve seen it happen,” said Jason Argent, vice president of marketing at 2K Sports. “Our goal is to celebrate and highlight Major League Baseball 2K10’s superior pitching and hitting mechanics this season, while also giving one of our loyal fans the thrilling opportunity to be rewarded with a lot of money.”

“Every baseball fan knows pitching a perfect game is one of the most difficult and rarest accomplishments in all of sports, and that’s what makes this million dollar contest so compelling,” said Evan Longoria, All-Star third baseman for the Tampa Bay Rays and cover athlete for Major League Baseball 2K10. “This is the chance of a lifetime, and I’m excited to see fans really try to go for it in Major League Baseball 2K10. I just hope they don’t try against the Rays, because my teammates and I aren’t going to make it easy on them.”

Fans will be able to participate in the $1,000,000 Major League Baseball 2K10 contest beginning on March 2, 2010 at 12:01 AM PST, and ending on May 1, 2010 at 11:59 PM PDT. I'm going back and forth on the demo - at first I wasn't really impressed and actually played a game of 2K9 to see how it compared and enjoyed it more. I've now played the 2K10 demo a few more times and it's starting to grow on me. I still feel like the infield play is too fast (especially the release and canon-arms of the infielders), but I'm hoping slider adjustments can fix that.

One thing I have noticed is that the pitcher/batter duels are much better than in previous games. I'm finding myself getting much deeper into the count during at-bats and fouling off a lot more pitches without using the defensive swing. I'm also starting to like the one-move standard swing. I'm sure I'll enjoy it even more once I can change the pitching and batting cameras in the full game.
