Played half an exhibition game and half of a dynasty game on pro with no slider changes.

Looks different from 2k9.  Not better or worse to me, just the player models are a little different.  They changed the menu system.  The old one took me awhile to adjust to so now I have to learn another obtuse system.

The cameras I liked to use are still in the game so I was really happy with that because I believe the camera settings I used were an integral part of why I enjoyed 2k9 so much.

The play is a bit more hurried than 2k9 which I dislike, but I know the majority of gamers will be happy about.  Instead of having the entire throw back to the pitcher animated from throw to getting set on the mound again the ball just gets thrown back and there is a little flash and the pitcher is set.  On hurry up baseball it is even faster with the pitcher getting set right after the pitch and there are no batter walk ups or stats overlays.

The pitching is probably better than last year due to the emphasis of the gesture, but I don't think it is nearly as fluid as last year.  Last year you did everything from the right stick.  This year they add a button press which makes it feel more like playing a game and less like you are in the game.  Also, I was disappointed to see that you can no longer aim the pitch and then press right trigger to lock in your aim point before starting your motion.  Now you have to aim the whole time.  This causes some problems when throwing to a base to hold a runner.

The crowd going for foul balls has been removed.....boo.

They added John Kruk to the color staff.  He's all right to me, but not adding anything that Steve Phillips doesn't already bring.  I know the whole real life Steve Phillips debacle, but I actually enjoyed listening to him and Gary converse in 2k9.  So now there is three.

Dynasty has added spring training games so now you can play all of those too.  Also the roster expands to 40 man for the spring which is a great addition.

Team ratings go from 97 for NYY and 96 for BOS down to 69 for poor PIT.  Most teams are 79 to 84 it seems.  Seattle is an 80.

Batting is way different this year.  More than pitching.  Not only do you get to swing three different ways (full swing, contact, and defensive), but it seems they have shrunk the strike zone a bit and (I haven't quite figured out what triggers this) you also get (at times) the kind of pitch that is coming, the general area of the pitch (inside, outside), whether it is going to be a definite strike or ball, and sometimes nothing so you don't know what is coming.  I can't tell if it is triggered by skill, pitch count, something else, or a combination of all three.  It's definitely interesting and it can be turned off simply by turning off the visible strike zone while batting.  You can also turn off the strike zone while pitching too which I do because it helps me avoid fudging my aim to try and throw a strike.  I just pitch where the catcher tells me and live with the results.

You can have swing and pitch analysis on every pitch if you so desire.

If you completely flub a pitch you throw a wild pitch, not a meatball.....good.  On pro it is a good enough challenge to throw with high power all the time.  Most of my pitches are 75 percent power.

I played 2k9 with a very specific slider set that I loved so it is always hard for me to change games and takes awhile for me to get used to the new game.  I was happy to see that the default pro sliders was resulting in good pitch counts and strikes to balls ratios.  In my first game I had a 1:1 strike/ball ratio with Cliff Lee and the computer had a 1:2 with their starter (forgot who).  Then in dynasty Oakland's starter had a 2:1 and I had a 1:2 with Felix Hernandez.  In four inning I struck out three with Felix with now walks despite the 1:2 ratio.  I drew two walks on my side of the plate.

Fielding doesn't seem quite as fun as in 2k9.  It doesn't feel as fluid.  Throwing seems the same.

Frame rate is good so far.  I didn't have any framerate issues in 2k9 except at a few parks and usually only when men were on base while I was batting.

So far pretty decent.  I have a hard time switching baseball games, but I think this may grow on me.

I went onto Xbox Live from my work PC yesterday and was so jealous when I saw you online with MLB 2K10.

Do the camera changes save or do you have to reset them before every game?

I'm pretty sure I saw the crowd go for foul balls in the demo. It would be disappointing if it's not in the retail version.

Thanks for the impressions so far.

Edit: I typed a much longer reply, but it got lost when I went to post it Angry.

I'll check on those camera settings.

Speaking of camera...it appears that there is only one fielding camera and I think it is zoomed in too close for outfield play.  So if the fielding camera options have been removed then shame on them.

Also, fielding is way faster than in 2k9.  I don't like it as much....so far.

I may do the crazy thing of playing the rest of my 2k9 season and then adjusting all the rosters in 2k10 to match where I left off in 2k9.

Oh, you can play franchise games online against friends.  That might be ultra cool if they have figured out there lag problems after all these years.

2K9 (and 2K8) didn't have fielding-camera options either. It's funny because I hated 2k9's zoomed out outfield camera at first, but I love it now. Based on the demo, I can live with 2K10's outfield camera.

I didn't realize it was a fixed camera in 2k9.  I guess I just liked it from the start.

It doesn't appear you can change cpu pitcher in play now mode.

I tried the "my player" side of the game and created a starting pitcher.  I like this mode so far.

Is there still a fielding practice mode?

I played the demo some more tonight and I'm starting to really enjoy it.

Yes, it's called "my player" and I'm enjoying that part of the game more than dynasty at the moment.

It's different.  It's called drills and it is basically a set of tasks that you have to complete at each position.  I think it is there to get you ready for "my player."

Thanks for the info. It kind of sucks they changed it around because I loved going into the fielding mode and just practicing.

Ted, have you made any slider adjustments yet? It seems (from what I've read) that slowing down the CPU fielder speed to 20-25 generates more realistic hit results.

I put in my old sliders for one game, but only played a few innings before I got distracted by something else.  There are a lot less slider options this year....maybe 1/2 to 2/3 as much as last year.  I wouldn't doubt that reducing fielder speed is helping again this year.  That was a major one for me last year.

Spending most of my time in "my player" with my SP Teddy Hammerzeit and my RF Dale Sturmodick.  So far I think "my player" is well done and is quite a bit of fun.

So far I'm really enjoying this year's game.  I'm even more impressed with the results it generates with out of the box play (no sliders) than previous versions.

Same here. The only slider adjustment I made was to the fielder's speed and I'm seeing much more realistic hit results than with the demo.

Also, now that I'm used to the pre-load throwing, I'm finding the fielding to be much better than last year's game. I just wish they keep the old fielding practice mode.

Ted, I found a way to see the opposing pitcher's stamina/confidence (use the D-pad while batting), but I still haven't found an easy way to check on your own pitcher's info.

Well, it's not exactly checking, but you can tell when your pitcher is getting tired because the speed of the meter between start of windup and full power lock increases very noticeably.  It makes keeping fine control nearly impossible in the later stages of the outing and can cause a lot of grief if you aren't paying attention.

Kevin, I read your MAG post and I have to agree with the puzzling tasks given the pitchers.  They feel pretty random most of the time.  I have a pitcher and a hitter going and I can tell you the hitter tasks are more context appropriate than the pitcher ones.  I've really gotten into the new batting mechanics and love going down 0-2 only to fight back and fend off close pitches to work the count back to 3-2.  The plate battle is my favorite part of the game right now.  Last year I liked pitching best.

Ted, I played with some minor leagues teams and really noticed this. It's a nice touch and adds a bit of realism to the game.

Man, I am so into my "my player" right now.  I'm almost finished with my first season with Hammerzeit, my 18 y.o. power hitting right fielder.

It's been such a great ride and I don't know how they do it, but the hot streaks and slumps are there and pretty sublime.  You see little mini peaks and valleys, like going 500 for one series and then cooling off to go 238 or 111 for another series.  This last one was just a doozy though as I was 0 for the last 18 without a hit in 6 games.  I had drawn a few walks, mostly because I noticed that since I got my power up and had jacked 15 homers through 68 games the pitchers really started to pitch around me when there was two outs or first was open.  I was getting quite a few two walk games, an occasional three walk game and one game I had no at bats due to 5 walks.  Maybe I'm the AA Barry Bonds.

So I'm 0 for 18 and starting to feel a bit of anxiety during my walkups wondering what is going on.  What am I doing different.  So on a 1-1 count I get a 99 mph fastball right down the middle and bam.....411 feet over the right centerfield fence.  That's the way to break an 0-18 streak.

Also, it's been pretty cool working myself up from 8th in the order to 7th, then 6th.  I'm firmly entrenched at 5th now and I get put in the clean up spot when another player, Jason Gin, gets called up to AAA or we face a team without the DH which has happened a few times.

Hey Boys,

I'm only in July with my closer, but I'm feeling the same sense of accomplishment and occasional wonder you are.  I'm up to set-up man now, but I got rocked earlier.  After starting real strong, I absolutely blew up in a game after coming in with the bases loaded and nobody out, and striking out the first two.  Just when I thought it was time to move up in difficulty level because I'd "mastered" it, the game gave me a reality check!  You know what - I absolutely loved it!

I'm looking forward to starting a position player career soon - I just want to get some more batting work done, first.

What difficulty level are you playing on?

Lastly - dare I ask this, are there any plans for any kind of online league/season?

I made two saves to see what would happen at the end of my AAA season.  I increased all of my minimum requirements to make the call up goals and I was immediately put on the expanded roster for some September playing time with the big club.  I was put at 1B, my secondary position, because the other right fielders were all significantly better than I was.

In my second save I didn't increase my points and based upon my stats I was invited to spring training for the 2011 season.

Hey guys, it's been awhile!  My online gaming has been restricted because of school, but I am still playing every now and then.

Anyway, I picked this one up yesterday and started in on the My Player.  Haven't gotten too far into it yet, but I am enjoying it so far.  Hopefully they get the online part fixed soon (was hoping it was already fixed as I am on Spring Break) and we can play a game or two.  Starting in May I don't anticipate too much playing as I start my internship, ugh.

Hey Derek,

Sorry - I didn't play the demo.  I played a little of 2K8 and 2K9, and so far, I like 2K10 much better, for what it's worth.

Quick question - when using the "power" swing, do you have to pull back the stick and push it forward in rhythm, or can you pull back the stick before the pitch comes?  I'm still trying to figure out that timing...

thanks,

Kevin

Derek, the demo is a pretty fair representation of the full game. The big difference for me is the ability to change the cameras and CPU fielding speed in the full version.

Kevin, like last year's game, you don't have to move the stick in rhythm. I think too many people complained about that with 2K8.

Yeah, intentional walks both times.

I really want to get my hands on a copy of the full game without buying it to put it through some more paces, because I could see myself keeping this as my 'arcade' game to compliment the Show...especially if online works and you guys are playing it here.

But if I see *too many* 'what the heck' moments like that I'll be turned off.

I hope some of the franchise issues are fixed.  I haven't experienced any, but Bill Abner (I know, some of you guys don't think much of him) has simulated ahead and found some somewhat serious issues.

Regardless, I probably won't get very far in a franchise, anyway.  If it's that bad, I'll just play a season - that's plenty of baseball to keep me busy.

I haven't had time to play it the last two nights!  Yesterday was my daughter's birthday, so we went out to eat after she had a class, and tonight was "paying bills" night and another class for Brittany.  Plus, my son's been playing Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, so I have to fight him for play time on occasion, LOL.  Time for the old man to lay down the law!  :-)

I don't know if that is a fair statement.  I like Bill and I think he's a fair minded reviewer.  I only take exception to the notion that he is the "sports gaming guru", but only because there are so many different types of sports gamers that I can't believe any one critic's opinion should be universally accepted.  That's the reason I never accept his opinion on a sports game anymore because what he expects from a sports game is very different than what I expect.  His mountains are my mole hills.  Also, there are things I see him complain about that can easily be overcome by following self imposed house rules, which I know he and the others Bill (Harris) do when they like a title enough to want to play it despite its issues.  Yet, they'll seem to forget this when it may be a title they want to pick apart.

I still read the Nut and Feisty Weasel as well as Dubious Quality because they are well written and occasionally there is something there I'll take away and have some fun with that I wouldn't have tried otherwise.  Same thing with MAG.  I don't always see the same problems with some titles that you do, but I do still like to read them

If you are like minded with Bill and the other Bill and it helps you enjoy the hobby that's great.  I have like minds for different sports here.

As an example I feel like I see eye to eye with Derek's opinion on hockey, xbox live arcade, and racing, but not so much on baseball.  Jason and I see eye to eye on baseball, football, and basketball quite a bit, but not so much the racing.  So I think we all learn which people we can trust for a compatible review with our play style.

Now, as far as more impressions, generally I'm feeling that 2k9 was stronger in the franchise department and with the sliders I used a better game on the field taking into account hit variety and errors, but it's still very early.

2k10 beats it in the pitcher batter duel.  Hitting is more fun.  Pitching is more complex and less automatic.  And the added 'my player' mode is hard to put down.

Hey Ted,

I wasn't speaking specifically about anybody, or criticizing anyone for their opinion.  I agree with everything you said. I share similar likes/dislikes as Bill A., but not 100%.  Just being clear...

I'm hoping and pretty sure I can find a way to "excuse" or "work around" the inevitable quirks.  All games have them.  I'll get my money's worth either way!  :-)

I know Kevin.  I just wasn't crazy about the term "don't think much of him."  I don't think much of Tiger Woods.  Bill, I have no problem with.  I was just worried that on the off chance Bill might ever wander into this place and see a comment like that unclarified that he would take it the wrong way.

My biggest complaint about Bill Abner is that he seems to forget that he's playing a VIDEO GAME. He can suck the fun out of any every game he touches. At some point you have to just enjoy and play the games and not continually "test" them.

I love both the Bills.  Very few people go into the nuts and bolts of games as much as they do, and I'd rather all those nuggets of information be out there for consumption than go into purchases blind.  The stuff they write has helped me greatly over the years in my game-buying decisions.  Sure, there can be many issues that are deal-breakers to them that are not so much to me, and in those cases I just sort of go 'huh, no biggie' and read on to the next issue, which MAY be a big deal to me...and then they may have saved me $60.

I try not to get into judging how anyone gets enjoyment (or not) out of their games, but I do know that I generally want as much info from folks as I can get, and like Ted said, you learn the differences between you and who you are reading and adjust expectations accordingly.

Back on topic, I couldn't resist and picked 2k10 up today on my way home from work.  I am still fairly afraid to unwrap it, however... Wink

What Derek said...  And, I agree, Ted, I could've chose better words.  That wasn't my intent.  Although, I do know Bill A. a little bit, and I don't think he'd get worked up about it.  That said, duly noted.

One cool thing I saw the other day is that I broke someone's bat with a high inside-corner fastball.  Also, after getting golds on the hitting drills, my virtual reliever struck out on 3 pitches on his only at bat of the season so far!  I'll blame it on his ratings, LOL...

I found this kind of cool.  You can blog your franchise on 2k sports automatically.  Just select the game played in the calendar and choose the option to send it to their site.  It takes a minute to set up and link your identity, but after that it's a button press and seamless.  It updates the score and a few other things and allows you to customize a blog entry at their website.  I guess I don't need SGN any more Wink

Here's my first franchise...probably will start a new one, but wanted to experiment.  http://community.2ksports.com/community/user/blogs.cfm?blogid=965760 - http://community.2ksports.com/community/user/blogs.cfm?blogid=965760

Mariners have not walked anyone in 2 games! Shocked  Tongue

I opened my copy and am currently leading 3-0 in the 8th on my first game on All-Star default, Yanks vs Detroit.  Enjoying it, but worried about the ease of pitching.  I expect to be doing much slider manipulation over the weekend.

I find the pitching to be much tougher this year. I walk about 3-4 batters a game and can draw about 1-2 walks (which is a lot for me) a game.

Derek, I played against the Braves last night and had Jeter on 3rd and Granderson on 2nd with 1 out and they intentionally walked Teixeira to face Arod and setup the double play. The funny part is that it worked - Arod hit into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.

No walks in two games is unusual for me.  I play with house rules that say you have to pitch it where the catcher calls it.  I also think the pitchers aren't as accurate as last year as well because I see a lot of my pitches going left or right of my aim point.  I'm not too worried right now as it is my #1 and #2, Fernandez and Lee respictively.

The Pepsi Clutch Performer is an absolute joke.  I don't know how it got broken between last year and this year, but wow what a mess.

In the game where Garko went 3-4 with an HR and 2RBI they gave it to Rob Johnson who went 0-3 and struck out every time.

Last game Duchscherer pitches a 1 hit shutout and strikes out 15 (was experimenting with Legend) and they gave it to Suzuki who was 0-4.

Hope they patch that.

Oh and I walked two this game, D  TongueLOL

Just played another game and they got it right or at least acceptable.  Gave it to Bradley who had a solo homer.  Griffey though had a 2 run bomb that was the game winning run and rbi.  Overall an enjoyable and believable 4 game series against Oakland.  I went 2-2.

Good house rule about the pitching, Ted.  I do the same thing - I let my catcher call the game.  There have been several 3-ball counts for me as I try to hit the spot with my slider!

I like that house rule, Kev and started using it last year with great results.  I know I would have had more walks with 2k9 so far.  Or maybe it is Oakland that is undisciplined because they were swinging pretty freely at stuff out of the zone.  We'll see how the Texas AI does.

I find the slider the toughest pitch to place as well and I use pinpoint aim not breakpoint aim.

A little bit miffed.  I had an intense game going against Texas.  We were both shutout going into the 7th and I was held to two hits while they were held to 6 or 7.

Their starter, Darren Oliver, was very tough.  He was throwing strikes and hitting corners.  I had some walks, but blew a couple of steals and opportunities.  The thing was I knew he has a lower stamina and I was hoping to wait him out.  Sure enough he starts throwing down the middle in the 7th inning and I hit back to back solo shots with Lopez and Griffey Jr.  Bradley fouled one just inches of the pole that would have made it 3 and then hit a warning track out.

I'm up 2-0 in the bottom of the ninth and Doug Fister looks pretty good.  I give him a chance at the shutout, but he gives up a couple of hits.  I ended up blowing the save, but what miffed me wasn't the hits.  It was two opportunities to end the inning on throws from the outfield.  One went to second and one to third.  Both throws beat the runner and the baseman had the angle.  He just never made the tag.  Not a missed tag, but never even made an attempt to tag.

I thought the first one was some fluke or glitch, but two hits later it happened again.  I was pretty pissed.  The only thing I could think of was the game didn't like me not hitting the cut man.  I threw directly to the base.

Any word of this potential bug on the other forums?

Interesting.  You know for every advance they made they might have taken steps backward in other areas.  I popped in 2k9 and I saw more hit variety in 3 innings just now than I have in all the games I've played in 2k10 combined.  I've yet to see a pop foul to the catcher or anywhere in the infield.  I've seen one foul out in all the games I've played in 2k10.  I have at least a few every game in 2k9 and popped one to the catcher in the 2nd inning.  On the improvement side the ball isn't nearly as floaty as in 9 so the outfield doesn't get to everything.

I miss the fielding camera greatly from 9.  The presentation graphics between batters is better in 10, but I miss the presentation graphics between pitches from 9.  Pitching is better and hitting is deeper in 10, but I miss the variety from 9.

And right now there is at least one player missing from the entire roster who has been playing for awhile and is with Pittsburgh now.  Can anyone find Jeff Clement?

My player is great, but there is an interaction thing missing.  I have no idea how my team mates are doing through the course of a season because it doesn't show anything during games or before or after.  I have to go searching for their numbers.  As it is it's a quick and dirty character builder that you are pretty much just trying to get in the hall of fame.  It's fun, but I really wish there was more here.  Something in between games to make you care about the team you are playing for.

A little frustrated with it today.

Edit:  Oh and a fantastic idea being able to upload your box score to your franchise blog at 2k and then edit it with a story, but c'mon...just he batters?  What about the pitching line?

Edit 2:  I have yet to see a fielding error.

OK, the slider is absolutely a buggy pitch.  It goes where you aim the ball, not the breakpoint.  I couldn't figure this out for the longest time why my slider was always far right (RHP) of where I aimed either on break point or aim point.  This has to be a bug.

Edit:  Another thing gone from last year.  This year your force base runners don't automatically run on the two out 3-2 pitch.  Last year was there.  This year you have to tell them to do so.  Pain in the ass and at this point I'm starting to feel like a bitch.

Hey Ted,

About the slider...  I'm not sure I understand what you mean.  I've had great success with it.  It shows you where it will go after it breaks, but you throw to the spot where the break starts, not where it ends, like a real pitch.  How well it breaks, and how accurate it breaks, depends on how well you time it.  The pitch that gives me the most trouble is the 12-6 curve.  I find the stick motions tricky, and the break to have a huge amount of variance based on the quality.  I think this is a good way to simulate a tough pitch to throw.

Just my $.02.

Hey Kev,

No, it's not the toughness of the pitch.  I know what you mean by that.

This is what I'm talking about.....the little yellow square comes up (catcher calls the game).  On every pitch if you are pitching breakpoint aim you aim the end of the arrow for the little square because that is where you want it to end up.  With all the other pitches it goes close to the square.  But with the slider, at least with RHP's it doesn't.  It ends where you put the ball, not the arrow, like it was doing pinpoint aim on the ball.  Now if I switch to pinpoint aim and put the ball on the yellow square it goes even more to the right of the square, like breakpoint aim, but even worse.  This is even when I get the gesture perfect.

So basically to hit my spot with the slider from a RHP which breaks away from a RHB I need to aim the ball 6 inches to the left of the spot in pinpoint aim and even further away in pinpoint aim.

So if I wanted to throw a slider right to the middle of the strike zone (yellow square right in the middle) I have to put the ball on the outside of the plate (RHB) in pinpoint aim and also with breakpoint aim.  And with pinpoint aim it looks like the pitch should finish on the outside  and breakpoint would be way outside off the plate.  Both end up down the middle.

Ted, you and I are not alone - apparently no one else is seeing popups unless they play as a catcher in "My Player" mode.

The good news is that the developers are aware of these issues and hopefully correct them in upcoming patches.

I hope they get addressed too.  So far I think it is an improvement over 2k9 in general except as soon as the ball is put in play....then 2k9 has the edge.

Oh and you were right, the fans do still animate at foul balls.  However, in my player mode the camera focuses on the wrong area of the stadium so you don't see it....just a bunch of sitting fans.

I have the camera adjusted a bit and am using the pitcher view..not pitcher 2 or 3.

It's also happening with LHP.

So when you put the last arrow tip on the yellow aim box the ball ends up in or near that box?

I've seen it on these pitches. I just recently started placing the ball in the box, instead of the end of the arrow (I'm using break-point pitching), and have had much better results.

Must be hit or miss, or something.  I've yet to see it with "My Player," and I didn't see it with any pitchers I used in a Spring Training game when I was messing around with Franchise mode.

I aim the 2nd arrow to the yellow box, and if I do the mechanics well, it's either in there or very close.  Of course, if I screw up the stick movements, it goes awry.  Pitching on all-Star difficulty now, but played a lot on Pro.  No problems.

Maybe it is pitcher specific.  Can you guys tell me the players it is correct on so I can try?  And if you want... try it with Felix Hernandez and Eric Bedard (Seattle).  I'm sure there were others, but I know those two were for sure.

Kev, great posts at MAG about 2k10.  I'm seeing all the stuff you are in my player.  The quick road to the show....your team being in the division lead......taking the spot of more qualified players.  It's too much.  I would be glad if they had used me as a rest sub in my call up.  Would have felt  legit.  I'm batting cleanup and third.

I think maybe the way around this is house rules, at least to avoid the early call up.  You can only put points in non-goal categories.  Or if you wanted to be really serious you can put the points into the categories where you specifically earned points.  So if a hitter drew a walk he could put those points into "eyes" and if he hit a homer he could put it into "power", etc.

Hey Ted, I think it's just gesture based.  I just did some testing with all of the Yankees starters and Felix, and the more you vary your pitch gesture the more the pitch breaks.  Turn on pitch feedback and try these tests.

For a right handed pitcher, the slider goes from 3 o' clock to 9 o' clock.  Try starting up around 2 o' clock, and the pitch will drift more inside.  If you start around 4 o' clock, the pitch will slip more outside.   It works with lefties too.  (Start them at 10 or 8 instead of 9 and watch the difference).  I bet you were inadvertently starting your pitches a bit low (towards 6) on the stick.

So it's not so much that we were bad sim-gamers, it's that you were a poorer joystick jockey... Tongue LOL

Source: http://www.2ksports.com/forums/showthread.php?t=260152 - 2K Forums

Here are the notes of patch fixes for MLB 2K10 on the 360. **UPDATE** I have been informed that the patch could go live the morning of 3/16**. I also want to confirm that there is scheduled to be another 360 patch along with a confirmed PS3 patch (that will most likely be a combination of the two if all goes as planned). We got the support to be able to fast track this patch for 360, so pretty cool that we'll have it out this early for you MS users.

I should point out that this update addresses the issue with Online Ranked Games, Check Swings, along with several (by my count, at least 5) points that you guys discussed in the community feedback. Also, we have a fix in place for My Player, and we think it should get you guys having issues squared, but I personally don't want to guarantee that it will be the only fix needed. There might be another weird cause of My Player issues, but we'll be working around the clock on reproducing any additional My Player issues after the below fix is in place. Remember always to hold on to your My Player file and please let me know if you have issues after the update. I have been told by Dev that some cases in Q&A have cleared up the locked up My Player post-update, so hope some of you are lucky like that.

The next (scheduled) patch should aim to alleviate even more of your feedback and address any outstanding issues. Thanks!

General
• Fixed Inside Edge Batter Breakdown letter grade assignments on screen (cosmetic issue previously only)

• The correct ‘Player of Game’ was not consistently being chosen. It is now.

• Player of Game not consistent for all dialogs & audio, should be now.

• Fix for bug where head morphs changed when changing hair-style/length in create a player, also addresses extremely odd looking faces generated using randomize head option in create a player.

• Post Season pause menu stat issue - batting averages will be from the season, not post season as it should be.

• The loading screen would display a playoff *race* key game message, rather than a playoff key game message.

• In ReelMaker a wipe would not appear properly the first time, but it appeared if you played the reel again. Fixed.

• There was a case where the user had to press the button through button twice to advance to the next pitch. The intended behavior is to only have to press the button once.

• There was a stray camera cut after action replays, before advancing to the next batter.

• Fixes a bug with player stat leaderboards over specific timeframes: Last 10 Games, Last 30 Days, This Month, Last Month

• Breaking the consecutive game hit streak record was not being recorded and displayed on the Records screen. It is now.

• Bug where batting averages like .27777778 were not rounded up to .278 in the batter intro overlay when displaying split stats like "career vs. pitcher".

• Bug where franchise and career modes would display the incorrect year that players won a Gold Glove (shown in-game as "Top Fielder") award.

Gameplay
• Added Check Swings.

• AI Pitcher will no longer throw special pitches in a clutch moment (intentional walks, etc.).

• Fixed batter batting without a bat.

• Improved wall climbs and catches at the wall.

• Strike Zones are updated when a pinch hitter is brought in.

• User was unable to throw after queuing a throw before playing a wall collision animation.

• Composure is always affected on a mound visit.

• The fielding shadow was not drawing correctly vertically against walls.

• Show the pitch break arrows in two player games.

• CPU pitchers were staying in too long/throwing too many pitches.

• Sometimes a player wouldn't do a celebration.

• Incorrect 1st baseman behavior when a runner tried to advance from 3rd to home just as the 1B caught the ball.

• Umpires faced the wrong way when a runner stole 2nd

• Players would occasionally be called out on 2-man steal/pickoff animations when the ball didn't actually touch them

• There were several issues with double play behavior when one of the players was significantly out of position

• Players had a hard time making running tags

• Outfielders would occasionally play a casual-looking queued throw animation while there was a runner advancing

• The user would occasionally be unable to throw the ball to 1st base after fielding the ball and stomping on 2nd for a double play

My Player
• Fix for a bug in My Player where the “Break a MLB single season record” hall of fame goal was not being marked as completed when the user broke a single season record.

• Fix for a bug in My Player where broken pitching records were labeled as hitter records and broken hitting records were labeled as pitcher records on the timeline.

• The spotlight indicator option was not working, when you turned it off in My Player Setup Options it was still appearing.

• When playing as a catcher in My Player when you had to field bunts they were being hit to hard and the pitcher was fielding them.

• There was a crash when returning to landing screen after first round playoff games in career mode when you have a post season goal.

• My Player: The camera is fixed / focused on a patch of grass / the field as the Game recap screen transitions onto the screen at the ending of a My player game and

• My Player not always being put in appropriate place to see him when we draw the End Game recap in My Player games.

• Base coaches are in sitting pose during clutch moments in My Player.

Online

• Fixed bug that caused players to end up on team select screen with no controller icons when trying to enter a Ranked Online Game.

• Online divergence bug caused by split stats being enabled in online games.

I played my first game post-patch and wanted to post some thoughts:
  • I didn't see the CPU perform any check swings. I purposely tried a check swing and found it easy enough to perform, but I don't have the reactions to use in a real situation.
  • The "Pepsi Clutch Player of the Game" was correct for the one game I played.
  • Arod hit a 2-run homer and did NOT celebrate when he crossed the plate. I know it's a small detail, but player celebrations were done so well in last year's game.
  • I had a close play at home and the catcher stood in front of the plate and tagged me out instead of dancing away like he did pre-patch.
  • Someone else mentioned this too, but it seems as if the graphics are much less "jaggy" now. Cleaning up the graphics wasn't mentioned in the patch details, but I wonder if they smoothed them out a bit.
Ted, I think most of the user-requested changes (errors, rocket arms and injuries) are going to be in the 2nd patch.

I might be waiting on the second patch to start my franchise, then...

Another good call on the house rules, Ted.  I was thinking the same thing.  My next time through, I'm going to keep an eye on those goals.  I hope to have to go to AAA first, and then earn the call-up.  Maybe I'll make some kind of scale where if I hit certain statistical numbers, then I'll update my skills accordingly?  That might make it feel like I've "earned" the call up.

Of course, next play through I'll be using a position player, so I doubt I'll do as well (I'm always better at pitching than hitting).

Kev, you can force AAA call up by only making two of your attribute goals.  The mentor says that will get you a call to AAA, but not ready for the MLB.

I started a new player on Legend difficulty and I'm tracking the points earned and applying them to the specific category.

So if I earn a full count I put it towards either left eye or right eye depending on who was pitching.  If I get a base hit I put it in contact.  If I get an extra base hit or HR I put it in power.  If I get hit and run as a base runner I put it in awareness (like I caught the sign).  If I score a run I put it in speed.  If I score from second or go from first to third I split it between speed and agression.  If I catch an out I put it in catch.  If I make a catch on the run I put in range.  I'll use the practice drills to improve arm and accuracy because at 60 each I'm not going to be getting any assists, lol.

So far with the challenge of Legend and the tracking it is more challenging and slows down the game (which is good for me) so it's keeping me interested.

I had to put franchise away until they fix the omissions.

Just played another game and saw an umpire appeal on a check swing. From what I'm reading, it seems as though the jaggies were smoothed out because a lot of other people are seeing the difference too. I'm also seeing better hit variety...minus infield/foul popups.

Wow, Ted, that would take some time each game.  I'm not sure I want to do that, but I get where you're coming from, and it definitely makes sense.  I almost wish the game would do that for you - that would make more sense than me adding MPH to my fastball because I got a groundball double play!

I'll have to give this some more thought.  I really haven't "experiemented" much yet, but if I like a game, I'm more than willing to add house rules and other stuff to make it meet my needs for "realism."

Exactly what I was thinking.  I wish the game incorporated this much like games like Dungeon Siege and others (Oblivion?) had it so that if you shot your bow your bow skill became better.  I think these things should be tied to the tasks you perform or at least give you the option to "grow" that way.

Was the check swing by a CPU player?  Cause that occured regularly in 2k9.

No, by me. The next game I played had an umpire appeal on a CPU check swing though.

The check swing addition has been pretty noticeable and effective, IMO.

The game has a lot of issues, and in my opinion does not come close to Sony's game, but on its own I'm still finding it fun enough to keep playing.  I'll admit that some of what is keeping me going is the slider tweaking syndrome where the game starts to feel 'this close' if only I could tweak 'just one more thing.'  With sliders you often feel that that 'one more thing' is so close and yet you may never find it at all in the game.

Anyway, after a period where I was disappointed in my purchase I'm now glad I have this as my alternate baseball game.  My last couple of games have been really, really entertaining.

Is there a way to save camera settings in this game?
