A noticed a few of you playing online tonight and was wondering how the online play was. I'm really on the fence about buying the game and some good online play would pretty much seal the deal for me.

HT has been one of my favorite Live purchases in some time, Jason.

We had a room last night that had 4-5 folks in it, and I thought it played great!  Most of the time the group was fairly close to one another, and there were many, many close finishes that didn't seem forced by obvious catch-up. (Though it is there)  One in particular I remember was when the entire group of five finished with less than one second separating first from fifth!

It runs very smoothly, and even the relative newcomers were able to compete very well with folks who had put in more time.

It's a fun, not-so-serious good time!

Sounds good. I don't think I'll make it through the weekend without buying this. Does anyone know how many tracks there are?

Eight tracks I believe, with a DLC pack with more scheduled down the road.  Paid DLC, I'm assuming.

Yep, 8 tracks now, and the developers confirmed DLC that is 'not too far off' in an interview.  Expect a pack that contains new tracks and boats...last rumor I heard stated 2 of each.

8 tracks with the possibly of more via DLC is good for me.

Post when you grab it, J!  I really can't recommend it enough as I have been enjoying the heck out of it.  First time I re-dressed my avatar for a game, too! Big smile

Cool, glad you like it!

Beat some of my times to give me something to shoot for, and we'll have to hook up online with it too!

Derek, your times are insane. I'm assuming you got those times with an "Export" boat, right? Also, are you using a lot of shortcuts during your races?

Yeah, by now most of them are done with an expert boat.  Cutthroat is my favorite by far!  I use some shortcuts, yes, but nothing too crazy.  There are less actual shortcuts in this game then 'alternate routes,' really, as some might be longer but give you more boost, some shorter but less boost, etc.

I recommend doing a lot of the ring challenges.  On pro level and above, they do a good job of showing you the alternate routes around the track. Also, you are limited to a boat selection based on the ring challenge level, so on all of those I'd be using the same level boat that you are.

Fun running through the tracks with you today, Jason!  That finish on Asgard was great!

I tried to use some of my 'regular' shortcuts in places so you could see where I was going.

Also, I don't know if you know how to do the speed boost at the start of the race, but if you don't, you do it by hitting the gas the very moment the announcer begins to say the word 'go.'

Probably mid-week I'll try to get a good group of guys for some more racing.  I'll make sure you get an invite!

That was a lot of fun this morning. I can only imagine how fun it would be with a full group. I did catch some of your shortcuts, so I'm looking forward to trying them out offline.

I was going to ask how you did that speed boost at the beginning - thanks for the info.

Let me know when you get the online race set for and I'll be there. This game is a blast online.

Me and some DSPers may do a quick run of this at 9:30 tonight, Jason.  I forgot it was Madden day, though, so it may be a low turnout.

Derek, do you still have a group of guys that plays this online? If so, let me know the next time you race.

I have to admit that I was incredibly disappointed by the lack of folks who showed on what would have been only the second race night, so I haven't tried again.

I really enjoy the game, though, and would be willing to play more whenever, but I don't know that I can get a full room. :(

Hydro Thunder's Tempest Pack comes out Wednesday (10/27).

The "Tempest Pack" will offer three new environments, two all-new boats, a boatload of new skins, plus Championship, Ring Master and Gauntlet events. The environments will have you racing through the ruins of Atlantis, the stormy Bermuda Triangle and a medieval setting named Castle Von Boom. The new boat skins will supercharge the existing boats, allowing you to run even your favorite clunker at the game's highest speeds, with two of them coming straight from http://www.rundlc.com/news/hydro-thunder-hurricane-receiving-new-dlc-and-design-a-skin-contest/ - the Design-a-Skin contest held a while back.

It's $5.  A no-brainer pick-up for me.

Same here. I already purchased my points for this and the RDR expansion pack which also comes out this week.

I downloaded the Tempest pack this morning and tried out "Atlantis" and "Castle Von Doom". Both are fun and I'm working on winning enough credits to open up the "Bermuda Triangle", which I have high hopes for.

I think the tracks are pretty good, though Atlantis wasn't quite as exciting as I had hoped.  The Castle reminds me of old Jet Moto levels, where you spin around and the end and come back in the same direction against oncoming traffic, and Bermuda is full of some really fun and trippy stuff. (Which I won't spoil, Jason! )

I made it to the Bermuda Triangle last night - it reminds me of the Area 51 track. Overall, a nice job for $5.

There are sections where they actually make you feel you are in open ocean.  Loved that part!

Yes, and I love using the sinking ship as a ramp at the very end of the race.
