Brandon Backe pitched a complete game in Houston's opening game of the season to give the visiting Astros a 4-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners. The Astros chased Jamie Moyer from the game in the sixth inning after taking a 3-1 lead.

Seriously though, Ted had a run where he beat me in EVERYTHING we played for about 2 months (just check the ladders). I'm happy just to feel competitive again.

The Astros beat the Mets at Shea Stadium with excellent starting pitching by Oswalt and 3 timely homeruns. With the 5-0 victory, Houston moves to 2-0 for the season while the Mets fall to 0-1.

Good game Seth.

Yanks win 6-1...A-Rod with a blast, and Mussina goes 9.

Jason, I just noticed that the league stats don't seem to keep decimals for IP.  Pettitte should have had 4.2, but it just shows up as 4.

Yeah, I noticed that too. I'll see if I can fix it. The main function is to show who the starting for the game was though.

Cool.

I'm gonna eventually get killed giving up all of these hits.  I give up a lot (To both Jason and Ted so far) but manage to escape most of the time.

That can't last.

Seattle wins 8-4!  Mariners play good situational ball and get the big hits, while the Yanks jack 4 with no one on base and have all sorts of trouble in the outfield.  Ichiro proves to be disruptive on the basepaths, and Seattle gets Jeter out in the eighth with the tying runs on base.

GG, Ted!

Posted in the arrangement threads as well, but fantastic game Web!  What a game!  I thought that muffed steal attempt with Ichiro getting thrown out at home was going to end up costing me the game cause at that point I was only up 1.  I realized I pressed the wrong button and tried to cancel the steal, but couldn't do it.  Turns out the offense just kept churning them out for me Smile.  Mariners giving the Yanks some game at Safeco!

You know what's funny, I'm just as anxious to see the scores of our league games when I wake up in the morning as I am with real sports scores LOL. I knew you guys had a late game and the first thing I did this morning was check for the score.

Impressive win Ted.

Damn straight that was impressive.  I woke up thinking about it: 15 hits and 4 runs??  In the clutch, Ted was as impressive in the field as he was at the plate.

LOL, Jason.  I remember (back in the days when I went to bed at a decent hour) how annoyed I used to be when the Yanks were on the west coast.  Even the morning paper never carried the results.

Now, those games starting at 10:30 are like the best time for me to watch a game! :)

It was really fun having such a high scoring game on All Star too.  12 total runs!

I still hate when the Yankees are on the west coast, especially when they open the season there Angry.  LOL. I remember buying the NY Daily News and not being able to get the late game sacores. That's why I love the Internet, I can get updated game scores ALL the time.

Cleveland at Houston, 05/06/2006

Cliff Lee toiled a 9 inning shutout gem, with 9 K's and no walks, to lead Cleveland to a 3-0 victory.  It was a real pitchers' duel, with the Tribe clinging to a 1-0 lead heading into the top of the ninth.  The Tribe's big sluggers broke out the lumber, as Pronk and Martinez hit back-to-back home runs to seal the deal.

I think I've figured out why my offense has slowed down recently. I was using the 'Guess Pitch Location' option for every pitch and it was hurting my contact when I guessed incorrectly. I played two offline games without trying to guess the pitch location (or type) at all and my offense came back to life. I'm only going to use the 'Guess Pitch Location' feature in certain situations (which is what I should've done all along).

BTW, I faced Tim Wakefield for the first time last night and couldn't hit his knuckleball at all Angry. I'm glad no one is using Boston in this league.

I noticed you were using that...  Not that it matters, but I never touch it.  I have too much to think about while trying not to swing at bad pitches, than to worry about making any guesses!

I made myself not use it for a whole game (against Jason) and I racked up a lot of hits.  Convinced me to not use it and then I drubbed Web (Wink) 8-4 without it.  What I do like to do is alway make it look like I'm making a guess.  I'll always hold the R2 on every pitch so that my opponent doesn't know when I 'm guessing and when I'm not.  I'll guess in hitters counts and depending on where my baserunners are or who is on base.  I'm actually not consistent with the guess pitch.  And I also don't feel the risk reward is balanced.  With the way the fielding is in this game I think just putting the ball in play hard is the most important thing you can do.  Also I don't really guess pitch nearly as much as I'll guess location.

I've only used the 'Guess Pitch' option a handful of times. I'm looking forward to seeing if my hitting stays ontrack against someone online.

The Astros and Indians put on an offensive showcase with a combined 45 hits and 24 runs with Houston earning a much-needed 13-11 win over the resilient Indians in a 13-inning marathon.

Cleveland jumped out to an early 3-1 lead but was down 9-4 in the 7th inning. The Indians mounted an impressive comeback which continued into the bottom of the 9th inning when they scored 2 runs to send the game into extra innings. Houston scored two runs in the top of the 11th only to have Cleveland tie the game once again at 11. It wasn't until the 13th inning that Houston was able to hold onto their 13-11 lead and finally win the game.

Great game Kevin. That was one of the most exciting games I've played.

Definitely one for the ages!  I was feeling fatigue when we were done!  Smile

To be fair, the wind was definitely blowing out, and it was cool to see that have an impact on the game.  It was like we were at Wrigley, or something!

Big fun...  back and forth from the 8th inning on, like a couple of heavyweights going toe-to-toe...

Speaking of wind blowing out.  I thought it was bad when Web hit 4 dingers against me.  I managed to win, but only to have Seth come into Safeco and hit 5!  The horror!Embarrassed

Just so everyone knows, I did NOT use the guess pitch location option at all and had my best offensive performance of the season.

One thing I love about this game and league is that every game is completely different from the others. Kevin and I had a low scoring (no scoring for me) game our first time around and then we both had an offensive explosion last night. I shut down Seth during our first game only to have him shut me down in the rematch. I anxious to see what happens in my rematches with Ted and web.

Houston beats NYY in 10, 6-5, after coming back from a 1 run deficit in the 9th vs Rivera.  Walk off home run for Ensberg!

That was a really, really fun one, Jason.  The first half of the game I was struggling with a lot of lag, especially while hitting.  Your pitches were freezing midway between the mound and home, before resuming and zipping by me.  I thought it was going to be a miserable game.

That cleared up by like the fifth or sixth inning, though, and the game was certainly working fine when you came back vs Mo.  That was nice!

I accidentally pulled him, though.  He was going to pitch the 10th as well, but I accidentally replaced him when I went to warm guys up.  Turned out to be a fatal mistake, but the way you were hitting Mo it may not have mattered.

Anyway, that was a real blast.  Even though I lost, that was one of my favorites so far, complete with the way the home team won.

Oh, and damn those updated rosters!  I came into the game with the intention of pitching Pavano, since I used everyone else already.  But of course, Pavano was gone, and big putz Wright was in his place!  Grrr.

Figuring I have to use him anyway, I went with him, but as you saw, he was on a very short rope.  Proctor was great for me.

Great game Web!!!

I have a tendency NOT to use Mariano when I play offline (in any baseball game) because his pitches don't seem to have alot of movement. While a great fastball can strike out alot of guys in real life, it's not as effective in video games. Proctor and Sturtze pitched great for you though. I was glad to see you pinch-hit for both of them.

It looks like the updated rosters have made Giambi a much better player to coincide with his great start this season.

Also, I specifically saved Oswalt for my game against the Yankees. That lineup scares the sh*t out of me, especially now with Giambi's hot bat.

He recovered enough (barely) to get me out of the ninth with a tie, though, so I was willing to give him another shot.  Alas, 'twas not to be.

That was just pure fun, though.
