That makes me feel much better. There was no mention of directing your swing in previous previews and videos.

Here's some more info on MVP 06 from IGN: MVP Baseball 06 Hands-On

From the article:

"The classic swing and zone hitting from years past were brought back for the hardheaded."

I'm not sure what this guy is talking about since there was never zone hitting in previous games, but I'd love it if it was an option this year.
