Anyone else considering picking up this game next month? I'm not really familiar this type of online multiplayer game, but it sounds like it might be alot of fun. The early reviews of the game have been pretty good too.

After seeing the preview video on the latest Official Xbox Magazine demo disc I will definitely be picking this one up, looks like it will be a lot of fun with all of the characters and different worlds to battle on.

From what I read, it seems like you can do almost anything in the game - that's the part that excites me the most. I love that fact that games are offering freedom that was unheard of before GTA3.

Too bad XBox and PS2 owners can't complete against or with each other.

I've been waiting for Battlefield 1942 to make its way to Xbox, so I
will definitely be grabbing this one unless the reviews are terrible
(which I'm not expecting). I held off on the new Rainbow Six, but I'll
need some sort of FPS gaming before Halo 2 hits.

I just got a demo of Star Wars: Battlefront with the latest issue of OPM. I'll try to post some initial impressions soon.

I got a chance to try out the demo for about an hour and came away with mixed feelings. Please take my comments with a grain of salt considering that I've never played this type of game before (or FPS's either).

The level I played was Endor and while the graphics didn't blow me away, I certainly felt like I was in the middle of a battle. Being able to ride a speeder bike or hop into one of those walking tanks and shooting people was alot of fun. I had some Ewoks smash a log into the side of my tank during one battle. It's also pretty cool to see these things walking past you when you're battling on foot.

The problem I had was that all the characters seemed to move around very slowly and the weapon aiming and camera system are hard to get used to. I had a hard time hitting enemies right in front of me and I never felt like I could see everything going on around me (This could very well be because of my unfamiliarity with this type of game though). While you have the option of playing the game in the 1st or 3rd person, neither one worked well for me.

I'm still very interested in this game and will be interested to see what more experienced players think of the game. If the general consensus is that the game is good, I'll just have to learn how to play and get used to the game mechanics.

I just played the demo and liked it very much, played once on the Empire side and once on the Rebel side. It does feel like you are in the middle of a battle, the Star Wars music and the whole atmosphere is also very well done in my opinion. I prefer third person views over first person views in shooter games anyway so I had no problem with the control in the demo. Really looking forward to this game now that I had a chance to play it.

I purchased my preorder yesterday (along with Halo 2), and I'm
stoked for this one. I'd probably lean towards the FP view and
haven't seen any video footage on it, but I'm sure I'll experiment with
both. I'm really excited about the sheer number of people who can
get in and play, and the way the game is set up in terms of
conquering objectives, it seems like the battles could be real epic,
back and forth affairs.

Toys R' Us is offering a $10 gift card with the purchase of either Star Wars Battlefront (PS2 or XBox) or the Star Wars Trilogy DVD. That's $20 in gift cards if you're planning on picking up both items.

The only problem is that the Toys R' Us near me usually carries the Full Screen DVD versions only .
