Closing Comments Prologue is not necessarily a game for someone who wasn't quite into Gran Turismo in the past and is thinking of giving it another go (that'll be the full GT5 release next year), but it's definitely a worthy pickup for fans of the franchise. From the review:
You're fairly safe to stop reading there, chaps. Polyphony have never, at any time, had any kind of racing engine in their games. Driving, yes, but racing...I'll always meet that idea with an expression straight from Roger Moore's School of Eyebrow Raising.
The graphics are fabulous, and so are some of the engine sounds, though for every one that's dead on I can find one that's not quite on point. The idea that 'no game drives better or more realistically than this' is also a laughable one, but none of us have the time for the list of arguments I've got against that - I'll say simply that there isn't an awful lot to differentiate this GT release from the one you bought in 1998.
Oh, hang on - I've just seen this:
No. It. Isn't.
Occasionally - very occasionally - you'll see the AI cars race each other. You'll see them drive off track now too, and they'll do it fairly frequently, but when they go off, they rejoin by driving up to the edge of the track and then, usually, stopping and waiting for everyone to pass, leaving another few seconds and then setting off in pursuit. They'll still turn in ignorant of your presence if you're trying to pass, and they'll still hit you if you come to a stop on the racing line.
And this!
NO IT WON'T, MAN! Unless the engine and the entire game structure change completely between now and GT5 proper, this is just another Gran Turismo game, no more or less, and nothing that's not been seen before.
Apart from that, though...
