I ended up really enjoying 2k8 as well, but the unplayable (lag) of multiplayer really disappointed me. I hope that part is fixed this year. Would like to get some mp games going with you again.

Here's what one of the developers wrote when asked about online play:
As for lag, it's night and day from last year and we're at running 60 frames per second. Link |

Not be Mr. Negative, but that's a garbage response from the developer. The problem with the lag wasn't the frames, it was the difference between what each player saw on his own screen. When something is happening as fast as a pitched baseball if you don't have your game synced up perfectly the pitcher/batter game is a joke online.

I just played MLB 2K8 this morning and still really enjoy this game. My only concern with 2K9 is the base running. I think they had it perfect in 2K8 and hope it's not changed too much in 2K9. I was also happy to find out that "Meatballs" are completely gone in 2K9 and that 2K8's 3-step pitching mechanic will be available as an option.
Based on this screenshot, I'm not exactly sure how you select your runners if there's mor than one on base. Last year, you'd select the runner you wanted to control with the left-analog stick: |

Here's what one of the developers stated during a Q&A session:
Q: Is last years pitching still in the game if you want to switch to it? A: Yes, last year's pitching controls are available (minus the meatball which was taken out of the game altogether), just go to the Controller setup screen and turn "Release Timing" to on and it's the same as MLB2K8. We turned "Release timing" to OFF by default. Link |
