I'm hoping you guys might be able to help me out with an XMas gift idea. It's for one of my best friends.
He's 41 and single, and owns a PS2; loves sports (particularly football and golf), likes video games ok but RARELY plays them. He used to like the old arcade games, particularly the track-ball golf games (Birdie King back in the day, Golden Tee and others nowadays), and bowling (Capcom Bowling again way back in the day). Likes super-old-school arcade games (Pac Man, etc.). He has Madden but rarely plays it, and I've gotten him games like Blitz before with mixed results. I saw a "Golden Tee Home Version" thing that's around $40 and hooks up to your tv. I think this is a decent idea, but not great, would rather get something for his PS2 if I'm going video-game for him. In my experience any hook-it-up-to-your-tv game goes unused. So the questions: 1. Has anybody tried the Golden Tee Home Version game I'm talking about ? How is it ? 2. Is there any golf or bowling game for the PS2 with a trackball controller ? Heck, is there even a trackball controller available for the PS2 ? (If Tiger Woods doesn't already have this, it should) Or some other similar type of controller for games like golf ? 3. Are there any other PS2 games you guys have played that work for a super-casual-gamer who likes sports or arcade games ? 4. Somewhat-related: Have any of you gotten or given real-life golf gifts that you thought were cool and useful, particularly unusual clubs (hybrid, chipper, etc.) ? Thanks in advance!! |

Are you talking about this? Actually, I think this looks pretty cool, but would wonder where to set the controller for stability and playability. |

I have played this and it is not very good, plus it only has 18 holes. * Also the image (on the TV) that is shown in the advertisement is not even close to what you get (far worse), they used a image from the 3D stand up arcade game. 3. Are there any other PS2 games you guys have played that work for a super-casual-gamer who likes sports or arcade games ? The best game in the series, pure fun. |

Oh and we had Birdie King at the local public course and it was simply a blast.
one more suggestion for the PS2 owner, golf fan. It is not pretty but worked pretty well. Real World Golf for PS2 |

Does he have Hot Shots Golf? I bought HSG4 last year for Christmas and still enjoy it.

Thanks you guys!! Awesome effort!!
I'm going to look into the Real World Golf...basically looks as good or better than the Wii golf stuff, and the whole package is under $50 right now. May have to get it for myself as well! :-) The trackball-controller thing looks cool as well, but I don't think it'll work the way I imagine he'd like it with Tiger Woods or other golf games. I will stay away from the Golden Tee connect-to-set thing per your comments on it. I don't think he'd play NBA Street 2 much, but I may check it out if time permits. :-) Thanks again!! |

And oh yeah...I have a couple of Hot Shots games and really like them,
but I don't think this guy would play "traditional" video games too
often even if fun. I think the gimmick nature of swinging the
club in Real World Golf may give it some legs for him (and a
trackball-based golf game may have done the same thing).
Thanks again all! |
