I played a version of couple of years ago, and liked it. It's akin to Football Manager, without the polish and the smooth 2D gameplay. The recruiting was very fun, though.

I loooove text based sports games. Football Manager is on top of
my list. I played in several leagues for awhile in Out Of The
Park Baseball, but it seems like Baseball Mogul has passed OOTP for
ease of use. I am thinking of picking up the new Mogul game when
it comes out on the 29th - I love simming actual seasons from the past.

Totally agree about Mogul - it's so much easier to "pick up and play." I can get through 10 seasons of Mogul before I get through one season of OOTP or FM. It's simpler, but still effective and fun...
