Great game, Web.  Man what a battle.  If the whole season is like that I'm going to be exhausted.

Vancouver opens up with a win on the road in New Jersey, 3-1.

We both tried a little of everything this game, but the goalies were very tough.  I outshot Web 36-23, but the other stats were pretty equal.  Of course his four tripping penalties didn't help, but I wasn't able to score on any powerplays.  An empty net goal with 23 seconds left sealed the victory.  I don't remember for sure, but this may just be my very first ever victory over Webdanzer in any hockey game.

Fun Game, Ted!  You definitely controlled the action for stretches in the game, and I don't even have the '2k8 hangover' excuse this time, as I felt comfortable with the controls from the get-go. :)  Luongo is tough, but so was Marty. (mostly)  Ted earned his power-plays for sure, though, as his precision puck movement frustrated both me and my team members! :)

Don't forget to post it on the ladder.  I still need to post our non league game, too...do you recall what teams we were using?

Posted By: TedSGN
Date Posted: 12-06-2007 at 10:27am
We used Vancouver and New Jersey in that non-league one from a couple weeks back as well.

Edit:  Hey Web, you need to join the nhl ladder before I can post the win.

I was up 3-0 going into the third period. Jason gets two scores quickly in the third on some nice stick handling. I score the final goal with under a minute left.

And a good game to you, Jason!  Thank god I got that one power play.  I needed everything, as you came storming back.

Haven't got the faceoff timing down yet, huh?  Wink  That was also obviously a big help, as I got all but one of the drops!

I just got a new headset too, guys, so I should be able to talk once in a while now!  (though not all the time, as sometimes I have to mind the restless kids...)

Well, that's single player for you. Wink  I don't fully like/trust the 1p CPU game in this title.  Some times it seems some shots are just going to be going in, especially on higher levels.

Maybe we can play one at 9:00 or 9:30 and then I'll play Web after.

Web, I don't play above Pro.  The CPU is too stacked at All Star and above.  They can bump you off the puck with the slightest contact and poke too effectively while your players can't do the same.  I think Pro is the "even" level as far as player attributes go, so I play there.  It's fun and competitive for me.  I'm doing well with Vancouver and sub-500 with my AHL affiliate.

Posted By: Derek
Date Posted: 12-17-2007 at 2:17pm
Pro was a bit too easy for me when I played it, Ted.  All-Star is fun for me except for those handful of times a game where the CPU just seems to 'go nuts.'  It's not that it is difficult, (although it certainly is) but that the gameplay seems decidedly 'unfair'.  That's why I had taken to playing 2k's game for 1p and EA's for multi.  I'll probably keep that up, athough the control adjustment going from game to game is horrendous.

I will try to stay out of the penalty box tonight!

Posted By: TedSGN
Date Posted: 12-17-2007 at 2:23pm
Agreed about Pro feeling easy.  If I could have the CPU play with the aggression the have on all star, but with the abilities they have on Pro I would enjoy the game even more.  As it is though I get good scoring on both sides with Pro, a variety of goals on both sides and very fun games so I stick with it.  All Star just makes me want to throw the controller with what I see.  I think I'm 14-4 with Vancouver and 8-10 with Manitoba.  I would feel that 14-4 is not realistic except that I'm ranked 3rd in the NHL behind Anaheim and Philly in W/L record.  So if the CPU is doing it I feel it is somewhat realistic.

Good games Brent, and nice to finally play you on Live!  Sorry again for my late start.

The first game was insane, in that almost everything I shot was finding the back of the net!  5 goals in period 1, out of 12 shots (I believe).  The other two periods were tight, and game 2 played closer than the final score.  I had a big, big edge in penalty time, and won a lot of faceoffs.  Brent can outskate me, but I did well with passing and breaking some guys away.  Elias was very hot tonight too, and Brodeur was on for game 2.

Thanks for the games!!!

Sorry I started a little late, Jason.  I had to start working out a little later than expected tonight.

Fun game.  I fully expected you to win after that first period.  I don't think I have EVER forechecked any better than that!  I felt I kept the puck in your end the whole period, and yet I was only up one goal.  I felt like the opportunity had passed, you know?

But the second period sealed it, with me scoring on some clean mid range stuff.  I took some clean shots, but was still surprised that 3 went in!

Third period was yours, but you had too much ground to make up.  Biggest thing in the game was the faceoffs, though.  Big advantage to me, and it really puts you behind the eight-ball if the other team is starting with the puck after every stoppage.  Easily the biggest factor in the game.

Great fun, and thanks for playing!!!

Did you look at the team stats? You dominated every major category. I think faceoffs were 35-2 in your favor Embarrassed. I need to work on my poke-checking. You and Ted kill me with it every game.

Ted knows how to counter it, too.  I was in the penalty box the whole game against him!

Yeah, I saw the faceoffs number and the time of attack were big my way.  I compiled most of the stat leads that 1st period, though.  It was more even in the second and especially in the third.

Wow, that's a lot of one-timers for me!

You can see how well they paid off... 0/15! Ouch

I'm glad to see that faceoffs do make a difference in this game.  They are a BIG deal in the real NHL and faceoff men that consistently win 55 to 60 percent of their draws are coveted.

Did you guys update the table or is that left to me?

No.  Jason and I can edit the post as moderators.  My question was really directed at him.  Thanks for asking though.

You sure you don't want to use this:

http://www.sportsgamingnation.com/standings/index.php?conf=11 - http://www.sportsgamingnation.com/standings/index.php?conf=11

This way everyone could enter game results and the standings and totals would be calculated automatically.

I added all of our past and upcoming games and can PM the password to everyone in the league just in case we decide to use this.
