So Japan in November and one would imagine USA in Spring 2007.

That would be great news for Microsoft. They'd have plenty of Xbox 360's to sell during the 2006 holiday season in the US.

I am .

Don't be shocked if the 360 is my console of choice for the next generation. Sony is the first and only company that I've been loyal to for more than one generation (PS1 & PS2).

I've gone from Atari (2600) to Nintendo (NES) to Sega (Genesis) to Sony (PS1) and Sony again with the PS2.

The Xbox 360's biggest competition for my gaming dollars is my PS2. Unlike past generations, I'm not desperate for the next-generation of systems. It's probably a testament to the strides made this generation in sports gaming and racing titles.

Kinda disappointed.  Was hoping they would get it out this year.  I think I'll stop stalling then and get a 360.  I really want to play Round 3 with it.  I'll be looking this Friday on the mainland.

If anything wait until May for E3 to hit and all the good info to come out. I am also going to wait for the 360 to drop in price later this year, as promised by MS.

Well worldwide launch in November. I guess that makes Ebay sellers thrilled to hear.

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/696/696062p1.html - IGN Lowdown

Quotes and more

At the PlayStation Business Briefing 2006, Ken Kutaragi has just added another infamous quote to his belt, this time stating that PS3 games are "live" and that the PS3 concept is "4D".

He claims that games have gone from 8-bit to 16-bit planes, to the "space" that you saw on the PS1/PS2, and now PS3 will be "live".

Beginning at the system's launch, currently scheduled for sometime this November, the system will feature community tools including lobby matching and voice chat, commerce features that includes bootable software via the http://ps3.ign.com/articles/696/696059p1.html#" style="border-bottom: medium double green; text-decoration: none; color: green; background-color: transparent; font-style: italic;" class="iAs - hard drive and more.

The service was created with the help of http://ps3.ign.com/articles/696/696059p1.html#" style="border-bottom: medium double green; text-decoration: none; color: green; background-color: transparent; font-style: italic;" class="iAs - Sony Online Entertainment. Best of all, the "basic" service will be free of charge.

At its PlayStation Business Briefing 2006 in Japan, Sony announced its production plans for BD-ROM discs (Blu-ray). Firstly, all PlayStation 3 games will ship on Blu-ray to help prevent piracy. In other words, no "cheap" DVD releases; Blu-ray only. Of course, it'll still play PS2 and movies on DVD, but all PS3 releases will be on Blu-ray.

The company expects initial BD-ROM production to reach 2.5 million in Japan and Europe and 5 million in the US.

From Gaming Age
  • Worldwide Launch - November 11.
  • Six million units produced in 2006 alone, a move to stem shortages.
  • The price will not be less than 50,000 yen ($420 US)
  • Full backwards compatibility, hi-res and texture filtering for all titles, akin to what the http://gaming-age.com/news/2006/3/15-27#" style="border-bottom: medium double rgb0, 0, 0; text-decoration: none; color: rgb0, 0, 0; background-color: transparent;" class="iAs - Xbox 360 does.
  • 60GB HDD standard, loaded with Linux.
  • Every PS3 game will be on a Blu Ray Disc, in an attempt to prevent piracy.
  • The http://gaming-age.com/news/2006/3/15-27#" style="border-bottom: medium double rgb0, 0, 0; text-decoration: none; color: rgb0, 0, 0; background-color: transparent;" class="iAs - online service will be working off of GameSpy technology.

That 4D quote is apparently the equivilent to Emotion Engine.

After reading everything I find myself teetering toward getting both an Xbox 360 and PS3 down the line. If you can get Blue Ray and a gaming system w/ hard drive for under $500 that is a really good deal.

I would get the Xbox 360 first this fall or winter (depending on the price drop) and the PS3 next year.  In both cases there will be a bunch of games that will have dropped in price by the time I get one.

Or I could do the wise thing, give up gaming and find a cheaper hobby.

There aren't that many hobbies for guys our age that are much cheaper. I always make it a point to tell my wife that I could have ALOT of other hobbies that are MORE expensive or LESS moral . Having your husband stay home on Saturday nights playing online games is NOT the worst thing in the world.

Well I could never give up gaming. Tried too many times. Worst case senario I will just keep holding off on the next generation and keep playing the Xbox until next year. I have gone this long without buying a 360 which is a suprise even to me.

Sorry, couldn't resist, and I figured I'd beat Brent to it .

I'm getting into some other hobbies (re-entering some others) and gaming is cheap compared to most, especially if you rent most of your titles.

I'm backing away from my earlier statement of getting a 360 on the mainland this week.  There are just too many things I want to do outside of gaming right now and the gaming I am doing is filled by the different online things we have going here.

Can anyone tell me why a blue-ray player is so good from a consumer standpoint?  I'm being serious and not sarcastic with my question.

Blu-ray is one of the two competing formats for upcoming HD video releases.  It's somewhat like the jump from VHS to DVD for home movie watching.

I must be rubbing off on you.   I am sure I will change my mind on next-gen a few hundred times until fall/winter.

Unless NCAA 07 is simply revolutionary compared to the Xbox version I just see myself going the $29.99 Xbox route. Just can't see that happeneing when your largest base is still the current generation of gamers. 300,000 PS2's were sold in February. http://ps2.ign.com/articles/696/696049p1.html - Sony has confirmed they have no plans to drop the price of it (they expect four-five more years from the PS2) . EA goes where the money is and it's a perfect senario for them. Keep making your big bucks current gen titles and slowly build next gen franchises with minimal updates. The current generation will get new sports titles for years to come if history (PSX-PS2) serves correct.

Perfect senario for me is to hold of until Christmas and get an Xbox 360 as a gift. With a price drop I can ask Santa for a few extra games. Not to mention all the titles like Top Spin 2, FN3, etc that will drop drastically in price.  Heck Top Spin 2 is already retailing for $39.99 and is not even out. Then down the line pickup a PS3 or possibly even a Revolution for my love of all things Zelda.

Like anything electronics related the early adopeters pay the premium price and deal with the bugs and other issues.  Late adopters get to swoop in, purchasing a better chunk of hardware and plenty of cheap games to choose from.

I spent $700 for a 3DO. Well over $500 when DirecTV first showed up. $2500 for a HD TV years ago. Been there, done that and god willing never again.

I can live with one more year of "feature filled" sports games on a current console that I won't have to spend $59.99 on for what so far has proven to be "games prettier graphics and in many cases far less substance." The people I grin at are the ones that sold off their Xbox for a 360. They get to miss out on WE9 and MVP 06, just to name a few. The next gen games already released will still be there when I show up. At a cheaper price tag to boot.

I was actually referring to changing your mind within a day.   I was well known at OS for buying and selling hardware (especially the PS2 and Dreamcast) every other month.

Gotta love MS with their official reply to the PS3 Press Event

This announcement certainly doesn’t change any of our plans. We’ve blasted out of the gate with the greatest launch in the history of video games and we’re keeping our eyes squarely fixed on today and on the Xbox 360 road ahead, including continuous new content and programming through our premier Xbox Live online gaming service, the delivery of 80 high definition games and shipping between 4.5 and 5.5 million consoles by June.

From Gaming Age

I'll believe this when I see it...  I'd bet Jason's HDTV that you won't see the PS3 in the states before 2007.

Now you're talking!  If I had anything of value, I'd bet it, but Jason's TV probably trumps anything I have.  Well, except for maybe a used minivan!

Count me in the group of gamers that has no interest in a 360 right now.  I thought for sure I'd be sweating for one by now, but as time goes by it's actually becoming easier to hold off.

I'm still playing 2k5 and MVP 05 on the "old" Xbox.  I can also play various wrestling, MX, MotoGP games, as well ass Dynasty Warriors, Stars Wars games, X-men Legends I&II, etc....  I don't see why people are in such a hurry to rush into the next gen when it's lacking in so many ways right now.

A lot of people must feel the same, seeing as how the PS2 almost doubled the sales of the 360 last month.  We're now 4 months into the next generation, and you still can't find a 360 sitting on a shelf.  That just screams "successful launch" to me

The gamestop I went to last week told me that they couldn't guarantee me a 360 until after May 1.

Except for about 5 days last week I haven't had the urge at all.  I'm over my momentary weakness now and will just milk current gen for all it's worth for the forseeable future.

Just picked up Morrowind on the cheap...  I'm excited about getting into it.

It's funny, even though I don't "moonlight" anymore, I still find it hard to find time to get everything done!
