"It looks exactly like you see on television. All of the intros, fly-ins, movies, graphics, announcers [Dick Vitale, Brad Nessler, Erin Andrews] … all of that stuff you see on ESPN will be in 'NCAA Basketball 10.' Not to mention, we're also doing CBS Sports integration. So that means we'll have two new announcers for the CBS team and that's Gus Johnson and Bill Rafferty. They'll be calling the games along with all of the CBS Sports broadcast packages. So if you're playing through your Dynasty mode, your Monday through Friday games will generally be on ESPN, but your big weekend games will be on CBS Sports. Conference tournaments will switch between the two broadcasts depending on who owns the rights to that specific tournament, and then, of course, the NCAA basketball tournament is broadcast on CBS. It's an evolving broadcast package that will look different from the start of the season to the end of the season. We were really excited just to have one broadcast partner, but by having both, it really brings things over the top and looks amazing. WOOOOOOOOOOOW. I was just thrilled to see a demo come out at the same time for the PS3.  IGN Hands on http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/103/1035592p1.html - http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/103/1035592p1.html First things first, yes this game feels quite a bit like NBA Live 10. All of the gameplay refinements that were made for this year's NBA game make their way into NCAA Basketball 10. That means that you can size-up your man and take him to the hole or assume direct control of a player without the ball and make quick cuts to the basket. The one slight change that has been made to the core basketball gameplay is that NCAA moves at a slightly quicker clip than NBA Live. It's not a huge discrepancy, but it's certainly there. Another change that will please fans of the college alternative is the crowd. They're lively as all hell and will shake your speakers, especially if you're playing in a place like Cameron Indoor. I'm still wondering if there are going to be any new college-specific game modes or feature additions to further widen the gap between NBA Live 10 and NCAA Basketball 10. If EA Sports can continue to deliver a unique experience, NCAA could not only match NBA Live in terms of quality, but it might even surpass it. Only time will tell. -------------

I read this earlier and was annoyed to see the only difference in gameplay between this and Live was the speed. I'm hoping that it's a typical IGN preview and the person playing the game didn't even care about the gameplay and was more interested in the presentation.

Brent, I'm really enjoying this one so far. I'm not sure why some people thought all the players felt and played the same because I'm not seeing that at all. The presentation and crowd interactions are both great and the graphics are very good. My only complaint is that sometimes players don't react quickly to loose balls whether it's a rebound or ball heading out of bounds. Other than that minor complaint, I'm loving this game. I also didn't lose my custom player names after the dynamic update this morning.

It's always bothered me that college sports game don't usually sell as well as their pro counterparts. I'm not a college sports fan at all but I can appreciate a good sports game whether it's basketball, football or baseball. I have no idea who the players are, but if the game simulates the sport well, I don't care who I'm using. It's a shame more people don't feel the same way. Always boggled me with basketball. I mean you get 300+ teams, all the different arenas, college atmosphere, numerous play styles and matchups and the greatest sporting event known to man, March Madness. What do you get with the NBA? A long drawn out season and a playoff system that is usually not interesting until the last few rounds. It is all about the superstars. Everybody wants to play as Kobe or Leborn. Football could be similar if it followed a playoff similar playoff structure. To be fair college baseball only existed due to EA Sports losing the MLB license. College Baseball, hockey and lacrosse all have a following but none of them will ever be successful in video game form. -------------

I am enjoying it so far. A couple games in and the camera is much better than last years. I am playing on All-Conference and it is pretty challenging. I have noticed that the AI defense does a really good job playing the lanes and picking off passes. The presentation (especially ESPN games) is truly the best I have seen in a sports game.

I'm absolutely loving it so far, but then again, I don't pick games apart like some of the so-called experts. I'm not really seeing any of the issues mentioned on OS like a lack of human shooting fouls, CPU not taking threes and CPU big men not passing back out from the post. I'm not even having the issue with players stepping out of bounds like I did with the demo. The bottom line is that it's just fun to play. To give you an idea of how much I like this game, I've gone in and given made-up names to all the players on my team (Rutgers) and know them all by name now. Oh sure. I get a freeze mid game every so often...let's see...I've played and finished 11 games and I can remember 3 freezes. So maybe every 3rd or 4th game gets a freeze? I just restart and haven't had any corruptions yet. It's frustrating, but it's all we've got I guess.

Yeah, I was kinda hoping EA would show some holiday cheer and throw out a patch this winter since they decided not to support 10. Of course with Elite being a complete disaster, I doubt they have the time to even remember that NCAA 10 even existed. -------------

I really don't think they are going to spend any resources on a game that is out of print. That would be showing goodwill and I doubt EA or any other corporate publisher has much of that.

The sad part is due to the Elite screwup they are going to keep updating NBA Live 2010 until they get Elite released (assuming that actually happens). At least I can play conference tourneys and when march comes around edit a bracket to play next years tourney with generic names (only one guy working on rosters for this years teams so I am not holding out too much hope for that). -------------

Suffered my first loss of the season to Oregon 87-78. Was a see-saw game with about 8 lead changes. I came back from trailing by eight to lead by five, but eventually couldn't keep up with their hot 3 point shooting (44%). They also out rebounded me 47-26. I've slipped two spots in the polls to #7 at 12-1 (1-1) -------------

After beating ASU on the road we fell to Arizona in their house. It was a tough game and their 17th toughest place to play killed our free throw shooting. In fact, if we had shot just 50% from the line we would have been up a point or two instead of down 3 with a minute left. 13-2 (2-2) 13th in the polls. Conference play is turning out to be a lot tougher than the early games. Edit: Brent I did have a freeze in the opening of this game so yeah it still freezes about every four games. Luckily I hadn't played any minutes when this happened so it didn't feel like a restart. -------------

Faltered again and fell to Stanford (10-5 (3-1)) 69-63. We've really lost some of that early form and now I find myself forcing the issue a lot when I need to sit back and take what's being given. Gotta regroup now as we face #10 Cal next. Record stands at 13-3 (2-3), still ranked #13 -------------

Another tough loss. We faced #10 Cal and went from 7 up in the first half to 12 down with 12 minutes to go in the game. Worked our way to within 3 points, but ultimately couldn't catch them and lost 78-70. Coming into the game Cal was averaging 85 points a game so I knew they would be tough. We just couldn't get the stops when we needed them. Cal moves to #8 and we fall to #18. On the road to southern California to face UCLA and then USC. -------------

Thanks, Mike. It has been a lot of fun so far. We're going back home to host Washington State after a successful road trip. We beat UCLA 74-67 in the 13th toughest place to play. Those tough arenas are absolute nightmares to shoot free throws in. We took a 16 point lead midway through the 2nd half, but they clawed back to within 8 and then started fouling and picked and pecked to stay close. We just outlasted them. Then we defeated USC 68-61 after tying the game with 3 minutes left and making a couple of threes to seal the deal. This game should have been a blowout as USC shot very poorly and we killed them on rebounds. However, we only shot 28% from the floor and trailed 27-22 after the first half. We regrouped and scored a fantastic 46 points in the second half and despite poor free throw shooting again (the road) we were able to overcome the late fouling and preserve the win. UCLA and USC are at the bottom of the conference standings and we have moved up from 8th to tied for 3rd (5 way tie). 15-4 (4-4) and #16 in the polls. Our current tournament outlook is, according to the game, thus: "Polls can lie, but Washington has been playing well lately and deserves a bid at the moment." WSU is struggling this season and we're at home so hoping to keep the momentum going. I've learned that you can't take any conference game lightly with this game. -------------

all-conference. I am still trying to figure out who to play with but it will be from a mid-major conference on the East Coast. -------------

Brent, I'm using sliders I found on OS right after release and don't remember their name, but I have them on my PC in a text file and can send it to you if you PM me your email. I've been happy with them right from the go and the only thing I do is play 20 minute halves instead of 18 like the file says. I like the amount of fouls and except for occasional weird looking charging calls I like the way the fouls look. I do not know much about BB so I don't know if the stats my players are accumulating are realistic or not, but they seem believable. The games are balanced, have good momentum, ebb and flow, and are emotional. And I have an attachment to my players. That's all I ask for in a sports game anymore for the most part. I'm happy to send them if you tell me where. I'd post them here, but I'm having trouble with the site taking long posts. -------------

I will send you a PM. Going with 15 minutes and All-Conference and will look at tweaking after a few games. I decided to start a different kind of dynasty (a 4 year dynasty with the return of Larry Bird at Indiana State). I turned off going pro in the options because he would be bound for the NBA early and I did not want that. I edited one of the existing freshmen and made what looks almost like a young Larry Bird, Down to the long socks and goofy hair. He is rated around a 85 with a premium on shooting and passing. A solid Defender and good rebounder with the jumping skills of a 500 pound sumo wrestler (I made him the lowest dunking rating 10 out of 100). Though due to his size he did make a dunk in the first game. So we begin the dynasty journey with Larry Bird and the Indiana St sycamores taking on the Missouri Valley Conference. We are an up-tempo team with three skilled 3-point shooters. Season One Game one Opening Round Indiana State (11 seed) - LSU (6 seed) (played at Arizona State) Bird starts the first half on fire and the rest of the team is cold. Down most of the first half ISU keeps it close and finds themselves down by a point at the half. As things heat up in the second half the LSU coach realizes that Larry Bird has been re-created and proceeds to double and on a couple occasions triple teaming Bird, leaving plenty of open shots for the rest of the team. Bird hits a three pointer to tie the game with under a minute left. LSU scores as they driain the shot clock. With 14 seconds left the PG takes the ball down the court and makes and awkward layup as time expires, 80-80 and we head to overtime. In overtime ISU is outclassed and LSU hits all but one free throw to take the victory as three ISU players foul out of the game. Final Score LSU 97 ISU 95 OT Bird 51 points 16 Rebounds 3 steals 1 block -------------

Did any of you like College Hoops 2K8 ? It's getting some love on OperationSports, but the reviews on other sites aren't so great. Further, did any of you happen to play it on the PS2 ? |

The only college basketball game I played on the PS2 was March Madness 2005. I mostly played NBA 2K2, 2K3, 2K4 and 2K5 on the PS2, but I lost interest in the series once 2K6 had come out due to the Iso-motion controls. College Hoops 2K8 on the next-gen consoles has a pretty loyal following from what I've seen. Most people still consider it to be one of the best basketball games this generation. I never really heard anything about the PS2 version, but I doubt that they introduced anything innovative in a sports game that late in the PS2's life cycle. ------------- http://profile.mygamercard.net/JasonSGN">

Great game when it came out but after trying the demo a few weeks ago it felt really dated. I would take NCAA 10 over CH2K8. if not for the game freezes. Stuck in NBAville until someone wakes up and makes a new college game. -------------
