Matchup #2:

Jason won the coin toss so he gets to pick first.  He can pick whichever team he wants in any one matchup.  I'll get first pick in any of the remaining 3 matchups.  Then Jason, then me to finish the picks when the time comes.

This is a replaying of the 2005 CWS tournament from the final 8.  All games played at Rosenblatt Stadium.  Double elimination tournament.  Final best of 3.  At the start of each new matchup (round) one of us will pick a team and the other will be his opponent.  In later rounds you are allowed to pick a team that your opponent used if you think you have a better chance of winning with that team or all of your teams have already been eliminated.

Baylor drives past Texas. 5-2,  to open the tournament.

The two starting pitchers had a real duel going until I drag bunted for a hit to open up the fifth and was able to sacrifice him home to take a 1-0 lead.  My Baylor hitters took advantage of a 2 out throwing error by the Texas second baseman and added three more in the 6th.  Finally a sac fly run in the 8th rounded out the Baylor scoring.

Texas threatened in the 9th when they scored two runs with two outs on a throwing error by the Baylor second baseman.  They then added men to first and second base before finally grounding out to second to end it.

Baylor advances to play the winner of the Tulane/Oregon St game while Texas waits to play the loser of that same matchup.

Perfect.

I forgot to write down the pitcher stats so in future games I'll probably ask for an additional table or two if it doesn't bother you.

Tennessee edges Florida 9-7.  Lots of hits on both sides, a few errors on both sides, and lots of pitching changes on both sides.  This one was a lot of fun.  Jason picks next matchup.

No problem Ted. I updated the tables so that they look better.

Edit: I added a table button javascript openWin'RTE_table_window.asp','insertTable','toolbar=0,location=0,status=0,menubar=0,scrollbars=0,resizable=0,width=400,height=190'">  to the forum editor so that tables can be added right from within the forum. You can access the HTML by clicking on the newly added  button too.

Oregon St. crushes Tulane 11-2 sending the Green Wave into the elimination round to face Texas.  The Beavers will face Baylor next.

Tulane's starting pitcher struggled heavily, hitting 3 batters in the first two innings.

In the Arizona St v Nebraska  game I'll stay loyal to the Pac-10 and let Jason represent Brent's Big 12.

Lots of errors in this one, but things settled down to a pitcher's duel after the third inning.

Great game Ted.

For anyone interested, I finally broke my no-homerun streak against Ted (MVP 05 & 06) and hit two in one game .

Texas jacked a homerun with their second at bat, but Tulane pitchers settled down and the hitters came through the minimum needed for the win.

I checked my stats book and I can't find any other games so it looks like we'll play the two that are left in this round tonight.
