Has anyone ever checked out the Madden Strategy Guide from VG Sports? Here's a link to their product: http://www.maddentips.com/madden2005.html. It looks like they've been doing this for a while and also have guide for other EA Sports games.

One thing that looks interesting is that every play is printed out in the Madden guide. It would be nice to have a printed sheet of all the plays. (I know one of the Maddens on the Genesis had a playsheet poster - I think it was the original Madden).

I was just wondering if this would be worth the $15.95 they're charging for the guide.

I've never bought it but have seen some samples.

Some of the stuff they talk about is cheesy, ways to get instant pressure.
Not sure if it was them but someone suggested putting a DB in at the DT
to generate max pressure.

They have a good standing but they try to apply some football logic to a
video game where football logic doesn't matter when the defense has
speed cheats. Madden isn't as X's and O's as people would like to believe
so much of these strategy guides is pointless. Play it as a video game.

I did hear if you get to the EA Premium Pass (free if you register a credit
card), you get access to "Madden University," which is suppose to have
this content.

I have a credit card which can generate temporary numbers but I'm still in
no hurry to sign up for the Premium Pass.

I haven't heard anything about "Madden University" but it sounds interesting, especially the content.

I agree about the Premium Pass. I'm in no hurry to hand my credit card number over to EA, especially with no one I know running a legitimate Madden League. If I do sign up, I'll probably use one the temporary numbers too.  I assume if EA tried to "renew" my Premium Pass next year that the card number would be declined.

VG is for the most part a very quality product. I don't have the
playbooks, as I've got a Mac and it's not compatible, but I do have
the virtual filmrooms for ESPN, NCAA and Madden, and their stuff is
always thought provoking. Some of the stuff does border on cheese,
but for the most part they are simply applying football principles to
the game.

I would definitely drop $20 on the playbooks, especially Madden's,
which gets the bulk of the attention over there.
